Navy destroys 14 illegal refineries, seizes N2bn products

Troops of the Nigerian Navy conducting Operation ”Dakatar Da Barawo” confiscated crude oil and other illegally refined products worth N2.7billion in June.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Director of Information, Naval Headquarters, Commodore Adedotun Ayo-Vaughan in Abuja.

“The various NN platforms deployed for ‘Operation Dakatar Da Barawo, Calm Waters 11’ and Tripartite Joint Border Patrol have continued to sustain aggressive patrols to curb the menace of crude oil theft and illegal oil bunkering.

”Accordingly, several Illegal Refining Sites (IRS), metal storage tanks, wooden boats, dugout pits and ovens were destroyed between June 13 and June 19.

He said five suspects were and the operatives destroyed 14 Illegal refining sites.

The Navy also said that 80 storage tanks, 22 wooden boats, 40 ovens, two-speed boats, a tanker, truck, barge and a Toyota Sienna car were recovered during the various operations during the period.

Similarly, Navy ship VICTORY in Cross River intercepted and impounded three wooden boats laden with drums of suspected illegally Refined Petrol (PMS) around the Ikang channel, suspected to be transported to Cameroon.

However, the Navy said, the boats, as well as the products, were taken into custody.

Vaughan said,” Forward Operating Base (FOB) Bonny in Rivers” also intercepted two wooden boats laden with about 400,000 litres of suspected stolen crude oil at Iwokiri.

The wooden boats and products, he said, were destroyed.

Similarly, he said, the Navy ship SOROH in Bayelsa intercepted a wooden boat laden with about 60,000 litres of suspected illegally refined AGO.

Subsequently, the boat and contents, he added were destroyed.

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), under Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), has carried out a successful air interdiction, neutralizing scores of Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists and destroying their logistics hub in Arina, Marte Local Government Area of Borno State.

Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the air operation, which took place on March 9, 2025, at about 0600 hours, was executed based on credible human intelligence (HUMINT) and confirmatory intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR).

The sources intelligence revealed suspicious movements and a large gathering of terrorists at the location, prompting the coordinated air strikes.

According to the sources , the air strikes targeted terrorist logistics, structures, and fighters, dealing a significant blow to their operational capabilities.

“The precision airstrikes effectively neutralized many ISWAP fighters and disrupted their logistics chain in the area. The operation further weakens the group’s ability to launch attacks on civilian and military targets,” the source stated.

Troops of Operation Fansan Yanma have neutralized a notorious bandit kingpin, Yusuf Gwamna, during a fierce encounter in the Dutsin-Ma area of Katsina State.

Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama on Monday that several other terrorists were also eliminated in the operation.

Gwamna had long been a high-profile criminal, responsible for multiple attacks, kidnappings, and other violent crimes across Katsina and neighboring states.

His reign of terror had instilled fear among local communities, making his elimination a major victory in the fight against banditry.

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai Repel ISWAP Attack on Local Security Outpost in Adamawa

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai successfully repelled an attack by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on a local vigilante outpost in Sabon Gari, Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State in the early hours of Sunday.

Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the terrorists launched the attack around 1:20 a.m., targeting local vigilantes near the Sambisa Forest border with Borno State.

During the assault, the insurgents killed one vigilante member and attempted to overrun the security post, but the troops of Forward Operating Base (FOB) manned by troops of the 114 Battalion swiftly intervened and engaged the terrorists, forcing them to flee under heavy military fire.

It was gathered that several terrorists were wounded as traces of flood was found in their withdrawal routes.

The troops of Operation Hadin Kai, in coordination with local forces, defended the ground and prevented further casualties and damage.

Security sources confirmed that no military personnel were harmed.
