NDDC MEDICAL INTERVENTION IN SOKU: RIVERS REP VISITS SOKU, REAFFIRMS THAT HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT REMAINS A TOP PRIORITY

It was a carnival in Soku Community today as the Most Performing Representative of Rivers State on the NDDC Governing Board, Chief Tony C Okocha KSC JP DSSRS, paid an on-the-site assessment visit to Soku Community to personally supervise the ongoing NDDC Rapid Response Free Medical Intervention in Soku.

The entire members of Soku Community, comprising Chiefs, CDC, Women, Youths, students, children, etc., trooped out en masse to welcome the man that God used to rescue them from the ravaging Cholera epidemic that almost annihilated the community.

Speaking during a courtesy call to the Royal Highness of Soku Community, the Chairman of Soku Council of Chiefs, Chief Omubo Omoni Alasia expressed shock that the Rivers State Commissioner of Health could be so cruel and insensitive to the plight of Soku Community to the extent of giving a contrary and prevaricated narrative to an issue of factuality, with regards to the outbreak of cholera in Soku Community. He posited that himself and three of his children, the Royal Highness of the Community himself, and so many other persons he carefully listed, were victims of the cholera outbreak just last week and are yet to fully recover from the disease. He wondered why the Commissioner would go on air to twist the fact, an action that is capable of discouraging the NDDC from the highly applauded life-saving medical intervention in Soku Community, and demanded an unreserved apology from the Commissioner of Health to Soku Community.

Other members of the community who spoke on the issue condemned the unruly action of the Commissioner of Health towards the plight of Soku Community. They thanked NDDC for their swift response in coming to the rescue of Soku Community, an interventionist action that has truly saved the people of the community from being submerged by cholera and other waterborne diseases that have been ravaging Soku Community.

Addressing the highly excited and elated mammoth crowd of the people of Soku at the Soku Town Hall, the venue of the NDDC Rapid Response Medical Intervention, the Rivers State Rep, Chief Tony C Okocha emphasized that the NDDC is not a subsidiary of the Rivers State government and therefore does not need the permission of the Commissioner for Health before responding to save the lives of the people of Soku Community. Chief Okocha highlighted that the series of SOS messages he received
from the indigenes of Soku Community forced him to escalate the situation to the NDDC Governing Board during the last NDDC Board meeting in Akwa Ibom State, to which the Board swiftly and graciously gave approval.

He thanked the Chairman of the NDDC Board, Barr. Chiedu Ebie, the MD/CEO, Chief Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, and other Distinguished Members of the 7th Governing Board of the NDDC for making the welfare and well-being of the good people of the Niger Delta a topmost priority.

He assured the people of Soku Community that the Commission will do everything possible to ameliorate the plight of the community by ensuring the provision of solar-powered drinking water, modern toilet facilities, solar streetlights, food, and other relief materials.
