NDLEA Arrests 52 years old man with Black Liquid Cocaine

A 52-year old father of four children, Okeke Anayochukwu has been arrested with black liquid cocaine at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA.

Anayochukwu who claimed to be a businessman was arrested with the strange substance last Tuesday upon arrival at the Abuja airport onboard Qatar Airways flight from Sao Paulo, Brazil through Doha, Qatar to Abuja.

A press statement on Sunday by the spokesman of the NDLEA, Femi Babafemi said: “For the first time in history, a 52-year-old father of four children who claims to be a businessman, Okeke Adolphus Anayochukwu has been arrested with black liquid cocaine at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, NAIA Abuja by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA.

“Okeke was arrested with 20.75 kilograms of the black liquid cocaine on Tuesday 15th March upon his arrival at the Abuja airport onboard Qatar Airways flight from Sao Paulo, Brazil through Doha, Qatar to Abuja. The liquid was discovered upon search of his two luggages stuffed with six smaller bags containing 32-makeup mascara, which tested positive to cocaine.”

Anayochukwu, according to Babafemi, claimed he was a businessman dealing in children wares before delving into the illicit drug business, and confessed he met the person who gave him the consignment to deliver in Nigeria for a fee of N2 million at a drinking joint in Brazil.

Babafemi said in other operations across the country, different quantities of various drugs were recovered from suspects. 

He said at least three persons: Tony Samson, Paul Adamu, and Reuben Waziri were arrested in Kaduna on Friday 18th March with 18,380 tablets of Tramadol, and 12,500 tablets of Diazepam and Exol-5 tablets.

In Anambra, NDLEA operatives on last Thursday intercepted a bus with registration number: AGU 460 ZW, at Obosi bridge heading to Aba, Abia state from Onitsha, and upon search, seven and half jumbo sacks of cannabis weighing 362 kilogrammes were recovered while the driver, Ifeanyi Anyamele admitted to be the owner of the drug exhibits.

The previous day, last Wednesday, narcotic officers in Ogun state recovered 865.2 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa around Otapele- Obada road in Imeko-Afon local government area. The consignment was brought in from Benin Republic on motorbikes for onward transportation to Lagos and Abeokuta. Same day, operatives in the state arrested Bello Ibrahim, 38, with 312.4 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa at Ogere tollgate, Ikenne local government area.

Meanwhile, the Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Retd) while commending officers and men of the NAIA, Kaduna, Anambra and Ogun state Commands of the agency for their vigilance and diligence, charged them and their counterparts across the country to always remain steps ahead of the tricks of drug traffickers and the barons.

Troops destroy illegal mining sites in Niger

Troops of Operation Savannah Shield have destroyed illegal mining sites during a fighting patrol in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.

A military source said the operation was carried out at about 3:45 p.m. on March 27 by troops of 22 Brigade, Sector 1, in conjunction with personnel of 221 Battalion.

The source disclosed that the troops conducted the patrol to Daban Woko area following intelligence on illegal mining activities in the locality.

“On arrival, troops discovered illegal mining sites, which were subsequently destroyed and set ablaze,” the source said.

He added that the illegal miners fled the area on sighting the troops.

According to the source, the operation was completed successfully without any incident.

The source reaffirmed the commitment of the military to clamp down on illegal mining and other criminal activities undermining economic and environmental security.

Troops foil kidnap attempt, repel gunmen in Sokoto community

Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA have foiled a kidnap attempt and repelled suspected terrorists in Gesa village, Illela Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

A military source said the troops of 248 Reconnaissance Battalion, deployed at Forward Operating Base Sauna, responded to a distress call at about 10:30 a.m. on March 27.

The source disclosed that on arrival, troops discovered that two armed men on a motorcycle had stormed the village, firing sporadically in an attempt to abduct a nurse who was in the community for a medical outreach.

“On sighting the troops, the terrorists fled the scene, abandoning their mission,” the source said.

He added that troops subsequently dominated the general area to forestall further attacks.

The source also said the troops warned residents on the need to provide timely and credible information to security agencies for prompt response.

Troops arrest suspected cult members, recover locally made pistol in Ebonyi state

Troops of Operation UDO KA have arrested three suspected cult members and recovered a locally made pistol during a swift response to a distress call at the Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ikwo in Ebonyi State.

Security sources said the operation was carried out at about 9:25 p.m. on March 25 by troops deployed at Forward Operating Base Ikwo, following reports from the Chief Security Officer of the university about gunshots suspected to be linked to cult activities around the campus.

The sources said troops moved immediately to the scene, where they apprehended three suspects found in possession of knives and scissors.

During preliminary interrogation, the suspects allegedly disclosed that another accomplice was in possession of an illegal firearm.

Acting on the information, troops proceeded to the suspect’s accommodation; however, he was said to have fled before their arrival.

A subsequent search of the room led to the recovery of one locally made pistol, concealed inside a handbag placed in the suspect’s wardrobe.

The sources added that efforts are ongoing to track and arrest the fleeing suspect, while the three arrested individuals remain in custody for further investigation and possible prosecution.
