NEDC Donates Medical Equipment to Army

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has donated modern medical equipment to the 7 Division of the Nigeria Army in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

The equipment donated are Electrolyte Analyzer, Full Auto Chemistry Analyzer, Spectrophotometer, Vortex Mixer, Hematology Analyzer, and X-Ray Machine.

Managing Director of NEDC, Mohammed Alkali gave out the equipment on Wednesday to the Commander 7 Division Medical Services and Hospital, Lt. Col. Adebiyi Ogunsakinz

Speaking during the handing over the equipment, Alkali said the military needs to be appreciated for restoring peace in Maiduguri and Northeast.

He said: “For us in the commission, peace and security is very important to work, because our work is to intervene, and without proper peace and security we will not be able to move around to carry out our responsibilities.

“Today we came freely and we are moving around freely, we can go anywhere within the state to do our job, without military intervention we can not be able to execute our mandate, so we are saying thank you to the military and other security agencies”

“It was for that reason, we are collaborating with the military during the covid 19 period we provided some food items and other sort of thing like ambulances that can enhance what they are doing.”

He noted that peace has started returning to the troubled North East and the issue now is to think of what other sports can be given to the military, so that it will boost their morale for the job ahead.

He said: “Today we are donating a very critical equipment to support the health sector of the military here in Maimalari Cantonment as part of our own non kinetic contribution to the Theatre”

Also speaking, the minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Faruk who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of her ministry Sani Gwarzo, asked the management of the Maimalari Cantonment hospital to use the equipment to improve medical treatment of soldiers deployed to the North East to engage Boko Haram.

On his part, the General Officer Commanding 7 Division, Maj. Gen. W. Shu’ibu lauded the NEDC for the gesture, adding that the item will be put into good use for the benefit of the entire Operation in the area.

Similarly, the NEDC has donated 500KVA generator to federal neuropsychiatric to tackle shortage power supply in the hospital, while handed over 200 unit of hospital beds and accessories to University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH)
