“We have carefully selected 100 vulnerable women affected by the insurgency and empowered them with $50,000 each, this is a big step to support the resilience of these women.
To fill the gap identified in the inception survey, “Managing Conflict in Nigeria (MCN), a program of the British Council supported by Hope Alive Care to facilitate the implementation of initiatives to enhance participation of women in peace-building in Maiduguri metropolitan council (MMC) and Jere Local Government areas of Borno State,” Simon said.
He said findings from the project’s inception survey indicated that 89% of women in the communities covered are not involved in household decision making which could be due to the low economic power of women in the communities.
One of the beneficiaries, Falimata Bukar thanked the organiser for their gesture, while assuring that the grants would be judiciously utilised.
