NGO seeks More funding for girlchild education in Borno

A non-governmental organization, Rise to Inspire Africa Initiative, has called for a significant increase in girlchild education funding in Nigeria to enable the country reform the sector in line with the demands of current global technological development.

The Executive Director of the NGO,Stephen Olusola Oladepo made this assertion in Maiduguri that “The world is evolving with artificial intelligence, machine learning, and the Internet of Things. 

He was speaking when he paid a courtesy visit to the Borno State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journslists on the need to raise public sensitization on girlchild education after Boko Haram insurgency. 

He recalled that recent UNESCO statistics show that there are over 20 million out-of-school children in Nigeria. 

“These disturbing figures, and more, demonstrate the urgent need for education reform in the country,” Oladepo maintained.

To ensure that the girlchild can benefit from these new technologies, the executive director stressed the necessity for government sy all levels in the country to invest in quality education and provide access to the necessary resources.

“We are urging the government at all levels to increase education funding by at least 20%,” he said, continuing, “We are also calling on governments at all levels to lead a revamping of our education curriculum, conduct capacity strengthening for teachers and ensure schools are safe for girls to thrive”.

He said the NGO in collaboration with Brian Builders Youth Development Initiative, was in Borno to identify with a critical stakeholder on issues that concern the Nation and Borno State at large. 

While commending the Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum-led administration’s effort in the education sector achievement, he called for the scaling up of such efforts.

“This is in terms of adopting a technology-driven learning mode,” Oladepo explained, saying, “We believe this will ensure effective learning and enhance the quality of education in the state.”

He said by so doing, Borno State would have a more educated and informed population, which would ultimately contribute to the socio-economic development of the state.

Oladipo also requested the collaboration of NUJ to ensure the success of the project with the target of improving enrollment of children into schools. 

While Responding, NUJ Chairman Comrade Dauda Iliya promised to partner with the NGO to reduce out-of-school children in Borno state.
