By: Our Reporter

Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has inaugurated three (3) boards in the health sector while also directing a comprehensive overhaul of the state’s health care service delivery.

The event was held on Thursday at the Council Chamber of the Government House in Maiduguri.

The newly inaugurated boards include the Borno State Hospital Management Board, the Borno State Primary Healthcare Development Board, and the Kashim Ibrahim University Teaching Hospital Management Board. The boards are tasked with overseeing initiatives designed to enhance healthcare delivery.

Zulum outlined his vision for the health sector, directing reforms to address issues such as inadequate facilities, insufficient staffing, and a lack of essential medical supplies in some health facilities.

“We are currently witnessing pressure on our secondary health facilities because the primary healthcare is weak. I want you to take all hospitals on a case basis and enumerate all problems in terms of staffing, equipment, and medical supplies so that we can address the issues affecting our health facilities holistically,” Zulum said.

Meanwhile, Governor Zulum also inaugurated the Borno State Local Government Service Commission Board, which comprises the Chairman and four permanent commissioners.

In their separate remarks, the Chairman of the Kashim Ibrahim Teaching Hospital Management Board, Professor Ahmed Ahidjo and that of the Local Government Service Commission, Alhaji Modu Alhaji Musa, expressed gratitude to the Governor for the opportunity and also pledged to justify the confidence reposed on them.

Borno State Governor Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum has officially commissioned two key projects completed by the Borno Geographic Information Service (BOGIS) today at their Maiduguri headquarters. The projects include an auditorium with a capacity of 180 seats and a media studio.

Engr. Adam Bukar Bababe, the Executive Secretary of BOGIS, explained that these initiatives were undertaken to enhance infrastructure and ensure more efficient service delivery. He highlighted that BOGIS plays a critical role in land administration, particularly in the digitization of land processes, such as the automated issuance of certificates of occupancy.

Since its establishment in 2019, under the leadership of Engr. Bababe, BOGIS has made significant progress. The agency has signed over 2,500 certificates of occupancy during Governor Zulum’s administration, surpassing the 1,700 certificates signed from 1999 up to the time Zulum took office.

The funding for these projects came from BOGIS’s statutory collection fees, which cover both operational costs and capital expenditure. Engr. Bababe noted that less than 5% of the agency’s total funds were used for these projects. Governor Zulum praised Engr. Bababe and the entire BOGIS team for their dedication to serving the people of Borno.
