Nigeria: Bandits release 32 abducted students of Baptist High School in Kaduna

Bandits on Friday released another batch of 32 abducted students of Bethel Baptist High School, Maraban Damishi, in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna state, having regained their freedom, bringing the total of those released to 90.

The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kaduna State, Rev. John Hayab, confirmed the release of the students to our correspondent on Saturday, in Kaduna.

Hayab said:  “Yes, 32 of our students were freed on Friday evening. We still have 31 with the captors and we are praying that they too will be released soon”, he said.

NEWSng recalled that bandits in the early hours of July 5, invaded the school and kidnapped 121 students of the school, but released a first batch of 58 students before the latest development. 

When contacted, the Kaduna state Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Muhammad Jalige confirmed the release of the 32 students.

He said “Yes, I can confirm to you that 32 students of the Baptists High School have been released today. However, they are yet to arrive as they were on there way home. “

Also a parent told Our Correspondent that, the have received the news with joy of the released of 32 out of the 63 that remained when the Bandits first released them and promise to release the remaining in batches.

“They (Bandits) have keep to their promise and we are seeing that 32 are coming home remain about 31 now that are still in captivity and we are praying that soon they too will come home.” he said.

He said it has not been easy for parents and the school authorities as everyone has been traumatize since the students were abducted in their school, adding that the government needs to critically looked at the security situation in the country and do something about it especially around schools.
