Nigeria: Bandits release 6 more Bethel Baptist students in Kaduna

The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kaduna State, Rev. John Hayab, on Friday confirmed the release of five students of Bethel Baptist High School and a Matron by Bandits.

The five students and a matron of the Bethel Baptist High School, Maraban Damishi, in Chikun local government area of Kaduna state in North Central Nigeria were part of the abducted 121 students on July 5 this year.

According to Hayab, five students and a matron of the school were freed on Friday evening while one student was released within the week.

This brings the number of those released so far to 117.

“We have four  now with bandits, we thank all Nigerians for their prayers and support. In the early hours of July 5, bandits invaded the school and kidnapped 121 students.” He said.

Recall that the Bandits had promised to be releasing the students in batches after a long negotiation with the authorities and parents of the abducted students.

The situation of abduction of students has forced many parents to withdraw their children from boarding school in Nigeria.

Although the Nigerian military and government has continued to assure parents of safety of their children in schools, most parents said they are better off seeing their children with them than imagining the trauma with the security situation in the country dwindling by the day.

“I cannot take my own child to boarding school. The Nigerian situation is pathetic and those people encouraging us to take our children to boarding school have their own children schooling abroad.

“They did not trust the education system in Nigeria, they did not trust the security of their children, and they cannot continue to use our children for experiments.” Mr. Peter Umaru told NEWSng

Also speaking on the release of Bethel Baptist abducted students, Mr. Emmanuel Khalil, a parent said ” I know how parents went through trauma over this incident and many are still going through it.

“I was not part of those parents whose child was abducted but I lived with a parent who is yet to recover even after their child was released. Even us that did not pass through that experience are traumatized. “Mr. Khalil said
