Nigeria: Bandits release Tegina Qur’anic Students
Bandits on Thursday released the Tegina pupils abducted three months ago from an Islamic school in Niger State North Central Nigeria. The released Tegina students are said to be on their way home.
Recall that about 140 Islamiya pupils were forcefully taken while studying at the School in May this year.
On Monday the school’s owner said that six of the students taken had died in the custody of their abductors due to lack of proper care resulting from illness.
The Bandits decided to release the remaining students following their condition as well as the continuous negotiation by parents and owner of the school.
The releases were confirmed by an official who asked not to be named because the government planned to issue a statement once they have the children.
One parent, Mallam Saidu Tegina, said by phone that the students have been released. He did not confirm how many students were released.

Another parent, Abubakar Garba Alhasan, whose seven children are held by the gang, said the students were on their way to the capital city in Minna. “They are released now,” he added.
Also Malam Dada Ahmed, one of the Teachers in the Islamiya told Newsmen that, “We were informed yesterday that the students were release. Everybody is anxious to see them. Parents have been calling and they have been coming to the school since the news broke out. In Sha Allahu, they will arrive and they will be reunited with their parents.”
The Police in Nigeria however did not respond to call put by Our Correspondent at the time of the breaking of news about the release of Tegina students.
So far, Bandits have abducted more than 1000 students in northern Nigeria following raids at schools and other institutions of learning forcing parents and guardians to cough out millions of naira for ransom.
However, the government has continued to deny that ransom was being paid for the release of the abducted students across the country.
