Nigeria: ISWAP attacks Police Post, NSCDC office in Monguno

Reports reaching NEWSng in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital revealed that suspected members of Islamic State for West African Province, ISWAP attacked the NigeriaPolice Force post guiding a humanitarian hub in Monguno local government area of Borno state, northeast Nigeria.

Reports said the attack was carried out on Thursday night and lasted earlier hours of Friday.

Sources within Monguno said the attackers left two Golf vehicles and some motorcycles across the ditches dug by military to protect civilian populations and walk across with rifles to engage the security Operatives through the waterboard IDP camp.

” They parked their vehicles and motorcycles near the security trench and infiltrated the town on foot through waterboard IDP camp. They proceeded to the Humanitarian Hub where they attacked the post of Nigeria Police Force (NPF) members guarding the hub. 

“NPF at the post engaged the operatives until the operatives retreated. ”  A source revealed.

According to the report, concurrently, another group of terrorists attacked a Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC) office a few meters north-western of the humanitarian hub in Monguno, prompting the NSCDC members to return fire and eventually vacated the office. 

” The suspected ISWAP fighters art bed the NSCDC office after they vacated stole an NSCDC vehicle and withdrew from the office. 

“The terrorists also set on fire a Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) vehicle within the area. Shortly after, NA reinforcement team from Monguno base arrived and engaged the ISWAP fighter for about an hour before they retreated from the town.” The source added
