Terrorists operating along Maiduguri, Damaturu on Saturday evening attacked governor Mai Mala Buni’s convoy conveying the state officials and security personnel back to Damaturu after the 24th Convocation ceremony held at the University of Maiduguri, which the governor attended.

However, reports from some of the officials in the convoy said Boko Haram insurgents opened fire on them injuring at least six members of the Yobe State governor’s security detail.

“The governor was not in the convoy as he had traveled to Abuja shortly after he attended the University of Maiduguri’s 24th Joint Convocation Ceremony (UNIMAID).” A source told NEWSng on phone.

A security analyst and counter-insurgency expert in the Lake Chad region, he àreceived intelligence reports indicating that terrorists attacked the security cars in the governor’s convoy between the Jakana and Mainok route.

According to the sources, the terrorists fired at the troops leading the convoy carrying MRAP, a weapons truck, and another vehicle carrying police and DSS personnel.

As a result, the terrorists were forced to retreat by the army’ strong fire response. Sadly, four police officers and a driver were among the two troops who suffered injuries. There was no proof that terrorists had been killed.
