The Sultan of Sokoto and spiritual head of Nigerian Muslim, His Eminence Sa’ad Abubakar has observed that the media has under reported incidences of killings perpetrated on innocent citizens by gunmen across the country.

The Sultan observed that many atrocities have been committed against poor and innocent citizens that have gone underground or skip the search eyes of the medis men.

According to him in Sokoto alone, and within a community, 76 people were killed and their bodies buried and the media did not capture that incident. He added that, on another day 48 innocent citizens were murdered by these bad elements and their stories go down with them with the media reporting the incident.

Sa’ad Abubakar who made this observation was speaking on Thursday during the 2021 intra-religious meeting held in Abuja.

He described the level of insecurity in the country as a worse situation, which has continued to drift the country apart.

The Sultan called on the government and security agencies to wake up to the reality of the amount of problems in Nigeria and demanded why the problem was allowed to linger for too long.

His words:” We should not have come to this point in our history as a nation if we take the issue of security seriously. In Sokoto, we buried 76 persons, who were killed in cold blood by criminals who came from nowhere, people don’t hear about that one. There was another day we buried 48 persons in the same Sokoto and nobody heard about it.

“Why are we saying that this evil was perpetrated by unknown gunmen? Who are these unknown gunmen? Where are our intelligence agencies? Don’t we have a proactive intelligence agency that will think ahead of these so- bandits or unknown gunmen?

“Government must wake up to identify all these bad elements going under the name unknown and arrest them. The security agencies must wake up to their responsibilities of ensuring the protection of life and property of citizens. They must take action to stop whoever is behind this evil in Nigeria and find them. “

The Sultan warns that the situation if allowed to continue will set the country in flames.

“We are disturbed by these happenings and I am making these comments with all seriousness as a leader that has a stake in this country and I am urging leaders of conscience to wake up to their responsibility and ensure our citizens have the enabling peace to build our nation.” The Sultan said
