NIPOST: Staff Accuses Post Master General Over Lopsided Appointments

By: Our Reporter

NIPOST staff on Friday said they are worried of the way and manner the administration of the organization has become with impunity and lopsided appointments of top management in NIPOST headquarters, stressing that these have grossly violated federal character representation under Dr. Adebayo Ismail Adewusi administration.

The staff who were particular with the appointment of the Director of Finance and Investment, Mrs. Roseline  Olurinola (a Level 16 officer or Deputy Director)  to head a senior officer (a Level 17 Officer or a Director) rather exposed the NIPOST Boss of his tribal sentiment in the working place.

According to the staff, this was not only an abuse to the laid down rules of the Nigerian Civil Service but setting a bad precedent for the future of the organization.

A senior officer of the organisation, who did not wish to have his name in print told NEWSng that, “This is the first time we are seeing a complete disregard to lay down procedure and they are doing it with impunity in NIPOST. Staffs are not happy with this development as only one region is having all the juicy appointments. It is sad but the people who are supposed to fight this are supposedly involved because they are muted with fear.”

He said, the coming of the PostMaster General has changed the direction of NIPOST from a national inclination to a regional one. “We have written petitions and we are going to fight this with the hope that this tribalism or attitude will not continue for the future of this organisation.”

Speaking further on the petition they wrote to the Head of Service (HOS) he said “We are going to expose them. We are going to bring every hidden thing to the public domain.”

In the petition a complaint was raised with regard to an account purportedly in operation in the GT Bank.  The Finance Director Mrs. Roseline  Olurinola was also alleged in the petition to have been operating this account (GTBank account No. 0024254992) where she was alleged to award contracts to herself using different companies.

“We believe this will open a CAN of worms on the management especially the NIPOST Boss, Dr. Islmail Adewusi. For example, to mention a few juicy positions given to a particular tribe and his associates contrary to civil service rules are the positions of Directors: Finance and Investment, NPI, EMS, Bulkpost, Philatelic, Mails, E-Commerce, Courier and Regulatory as well as Manager- IMPC to mentioned but a few.” Another source told Our Correspondent.

According to him, there are a lot of scandal presently in NIPOST which calls for urgent intervention as staff are being fed up with issues of sectionalism and tribalism in the organisation which are being promoted by the current management in NIPOST

“Petitions have been written and sent to various federal government establishments. We have made copies to the SGF, HOS, EFCC and ICPC as well as the Transparency International. However, we were informed that a certain individual in the government wants ICPC to downplay action over our petition, which is already undergoing investigation of persons involved.” He added

NEWSng , who was in NIPOST headquarters earlier to get some response from the top Management, whose names were being mentioned, could not be able to speak with any despite frantic efforts to speak to the PostMaster General or the Director of Finance who were said not to be on seat.

Eid-el-Fitr: IPCR Urges Nigerians to Embrace Unity, Peaceful Coexistence

By: Michael Mike

The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) has called on Nigerians to strengthen unity, tolerance and peaceful coexistence as Muslims across the country celebrate Eid-el-Fitr, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

In a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja, the Director-General of the institute, Dr. Joseph Ochogwu, congratulated the Muslim Ummah in Nigeria and around the world on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast.

He said the occasion, which signifies the end of a period of fasting, reflection and spiritual devotion, provides an opportunity for citizens to renew their commitment to the values of peace, compassion and national unity.

Ochogwu urged Muslims to sustain the virtues cultivated during Ramadan—such as self-discipline, patience, charity and piety—beyond the festive period, stressing that such values are essential for building harmonious communities and strengthening the nation.

According to him, Nigerians must also rise above religious, ethnic and political differences and embrace mutual respect and peaceful coexistence as vital ingredients for national development.

“At a time when the country is confronted with complex challenges, unity of purpose and collective responsibility are crucial to overcoming divisions and building a more secure and prosperous nation,” he said.

The institute also expressed concern over recent security incidents in parts of the country, including the tragic bomb blast in Maiduguri, Borno State, which claimed several lives.

Ochogwu extended condolences to families of the victims, praying for the repose of the deceased and speedy recovery for those injured in the attack.

He reaffirmed the institute’s commitment to its mandate of promoting peacebuilding, conflict prevention and resolution across Nigeria, noting that IPCR would continue to work with government institutions, communities and other stakeholders to address the root causes of conflict.

The IPCR boss further urged citizens to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies and actively support peacebuilding initiatives in their communities.

“Peace is a shared responsibility, and every Nigerian has a role to play in safeguarding it,” he added.

Ochogwu also prayed that the Eid-el-Fitr celebration would usher in renewed hope, healing and unity for Nigeria while advancing peace, stability and national progress.
