The sixth Northeast Star Magazine Award 2021 which took place on the 21th October at the American University of Nigeria (AUN) club house Yola Adamawa State was a large beautiful gathering of creme de la creme of who is who in the northeast region of Nigeria.     

The awardees cut across the six states of the northeast. Some are: Amb. Tukur Buratai, Dr. Mohammed Kyari Dikwa, Prof. Ahmed Ahidjo and Laila Ali Othman are among the seventeen recipients of this year’s award. The award was given to them for their achievements and excellence in either private and public contributions they had made.

The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) Prof. Ahmed Ahidjo who was awarded the Hospital Administrator of the Year took the in his acceptance speech where he digressed calling the attention of the leaders to the fact that hospital management of Teaching Hopital is a very serious business considering the insufficient funds and manpower most especially trained medical doctors which is lacking in the region.

Prof. Ahidjo said that the entire northeast has a total of 1600 medical doctors at present. While geo-political zones like northwest have 4,600, southeast 15,000 doctors. With this revelation, Ahidjo said there is the need for both federal and state governments to come to the rescue of our hospitals in the region by having more doctors.
