NSCDC NABS TWO SUSPECTS FOR ELECTORAL OFFENCES

The proactive disposition of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) which resulted in overt and covert deployment of personnel to Ekiti State for a hitch-free gubernatorial election has been applauded by the State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr Tella Adeniran Rahmon.

This was made known when Acting Deputy Commandant General Operations (Ag.DCG Ops), Haruna Lawal Muhammed, fdc, paid a visit to the REC at INEC office in the course of election monitoring duty in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State.

The REC, affirmed that he was impressed as NSCDC officials were deployed in real time to polling booths which opened early for accreditations and commended the Corps leadership for mobilizing large numbers of personnel to participate actively in the security training organized by INEC and identification of possible flashpoints for peculiar attention among other landmark duties.

The Ag. DCG operations, on his part assured that the Corps would continue to work closely with INEC and other sister agencies to ensure a hitch-free election process. Reiterating that the Corps is doing its best to secure INEC permanent and ad-hoc staff, electorates, election observers as well as sensitive and non sensitive election materials in the State. 

“The turnout for the election is impressive in most polling units we have visited and reports received from other Local Government Areas also revealed that voting is going on smoothly simultaneously; NSCDC is fully prepared to protect the people and Critical National Assets, our reserved personnel are on standby in case of any emergency and when the poll closes, our men on the ground would be deployed throughout the night, to ensure 24 hours security coverage of the state,” he said.

The Acting DCG operations called on residents to maintain orderly conduct after exercising their franchise and refrain from violence when the votes are counted as the Corps had deployed intelligence officers to possible flash points for effective intelligence gathering and management of security situation.

In the meantime, two persons have been arrested in Ado Local Government; one in connection with vote buying while the other was arrested in connection with thuggery to disrupt voting at a polling unit

Police Recover Rifle, Ammunition, Arrest Four in Plateau Raid

The Plateau State Police has arrested four suspects and recovered a locally fabricated rifle, live ammunition, and other exhibits following a raid on a suspected criminal hideout in Jos South Local Government Area.

Police sources said that the operation was carried out on April 10 at about 8:30 a.m. by a Tactical Team acting on credible intelligence.

The raid was conducted at the residence of one Luka Ovey in the Dong Kassa area, leading to the arrest of Henry Patrick (31), James Chorbe (28), and Fredrick Peter (19).

Recovered from the scene were one locally fabricated rifle, three live rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, three spent shells, substances suspected to be cannabis, and charms.

The police sources said further investigation led to the arrest of Luka Ovey (28) in the early hours of the same day.

“All suspects are currently in custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang and recover additional weapons,”said the sources.

Police Arrest 22 Suspected Cultists, Criminals in Benue Raid

The Benue Police has arrested 22 suspected cultists and criminals during a targeted raid on flashpoints and criminal hideouts in the Wadata axis of Makurdi.

Sources said that the operation, which is part of the command’s renewed effort to rid the area of cult activities and related crimes, began on April 9 at about 10:30 p.m. and lasted until 3:10 a.m. the following day.

The raid covered several suspected cultist abodes and black spots within the area.

Police sources said the suspects are currently in custody and undergoing investigation.

14-Year-Old House Help Arrested for Alleged Murder of Employer in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 14-year-old girl, Dorcas Adebisi, for allegedly stabbing her employer, Modupe Lawson, to death during an altercation at their residence in Oworonshoki.

Sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred on April 9 at about 4:00 p.m., and was reported to the Oworonshoki Police Division by the deceased’s brother, Abayomi Samuel Aina, around 5:00 p.m. the same day.

The sources said Police operatives who visited the scene at No. 13 Ayoola Street, Oworonshoki, found the victim lying in a pool of blood. Photographs were taken and the body was evacuated to the Mainland General Hospital Morgue in Yaba for autopsy.

The suspect was arrested at the scene and is currently in custody.

The police said investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing.
