NSCDC Parades 51 Suspected Illegal Miners, 3 Telecommunications Mast Vandals

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested 51 suspected illegal miners and three suspected telecommunication mast vandals in the federal capital territory (FCT).
The NSCDC FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu made the disclosure on Monday while briefing journalists.
He said that the three suspected vandals were apprehended by the men of Critical National Assets and infrastructure unit of his command, following a tip-off of the dismantling activity at Giri area by the FCT Command intelligence and undercover operatives
He told the public that before the decommissioning of any mast, an approval of such act must be obtained from the NSCDC being the lead agency in the protection of critical national asset and infrastructure in the country.
Odumosu disclosed that the suspects during interrogation by the command’s Anti-vandal Unit, were unable to show an approval from the Corps.
He said: “Neither do they have any proper means of identification showing who they are and the company they are working for.
“Upon further questioning, they revealed that a a certain business man had already been paid the sum of N4 million ahead for the dismantling which raised suspicion of a premeditated act of vandalism.
“Ongoing investigation is being carried out to determine his level of culpability and ownership claim after which necessary action will be taken.”
The Commandant disclosed that in a similar operation, 51 suspects were arrested in Gwagwalada area of the FCT for engaging in illegal mining activities.
Odumosu explained that the suspects, all male, had been profiled and had no evidence of a registered company they were operating under as well as no exploration and mining licence.
“All acts of illegal mining encroaches on the soil and causes environmental degradation and erosion and that is why most of these areas are no longer useful for agricultural and human activities.”
He said that after thoroughly investigating both cases, the suspects would be charged to court for further disciplinary action that will serve as deterrence to others.
Exhibits recovered from the 54 suspects were dismantled metal mast parts, five pumping machines.
“Un-quantified amount of substance alleged to be gold dust, pumping hoses, ten litres of fuel, shovels, diggers and head- pan.
According to Odumosu, henceforth, we will not relent to arrest any form of sabotage on the economy; the Federal Government is trying so hard to provide infrastructure to make life easy.
“And some miscreants in the name of vandalism and illegal mining are trying to destroy what has been provided.
“People are quick in condemning government but people like these are the ones destroying the efforts of the Federal Government,” the Commandant added.
The Command Head warned vandals and criminals in the FCT to relocate, stressing that, the NSCDC was out for them as there is no hiding place left for them in the territory.

Terrorists rustle 120 cattle, kill two herders in Wase, Plateau

Terrorists have reportedly rustled about 120 cattle and killed two herders at an isolated Fulani settlement on the outskirts of Gimbi Town in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident occurred at about 7:00 a.m. on Sept. 21, 2026, prompting troops of Sector 2, Operation Hakorin Damisa (OPEP), Wase, to respond to the report.
According to military sources, the troops arrived at the location and discovered that the attackers had already fled with the rustled cattle.
No contact was established with the attackers as troops commenced search operations and efforts to track their movement.
The military has continued to search the surrounding areas in an effort to recover the stolen livestock and locate the perpetrators.
Further details on the identities of the deceased herders and the circumstances surrounding the attack were not immediately available.

Katsina security forces neutralise 18 bandits, recover rifles and 96 livestock in Bakori

Security forces comprising hunters, Community Watch Corps and local vigilante groups have neutralised 18 suspected bandits during an intelligence-led operation in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The Katsina State Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs said the operation was conducted at about 1:00 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 21, 2026, at Gidan Iyado, Kakumi Ward, following intelligence on an alleged plan by the criminals to abduct residents for ransom.
According to the ministry, the security personnel laid an ambush and engaged the armed group, resulting in the death of 18 suspected bandits.
The ministry identified the leader of the group as Alhaji Musa Duki, whom it described as a former school headmaster turned bandit kingpin operating from Mununu Forest in Faskari Local Government Area.
Items recovered from the scene included one G3 rifle, two AK-47 rifles, 14 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition and three motorcycles.
Security personnel also recovered two cows and 94 sheep believed to have been rustled livestock.
The ministry said no casualty was recorded among the security operatives during the operation.
It added that a covert operation was ongoing to track down Duki and dismantle his network.
The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr Nasir Mua’zu, commended the hunters, Community Watch Corps and vigilante members for their role in the operation.
He also urged residents to continue providing security agencies with timely and credible information to support ongoing operations against banditry across the state.

Farmer injured in alleged attack by herders in Bokkos

A female farmer was injured after she was allegedly attacked by suspected Fulani herders at Josho village in Daffo District of Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident occurred at about 5:15 p.m. on Sept. 16, 2026, when troops of Sector 5, Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP), responded to a report of an attack on the farmer, identified as Mrs Sarah Luka.
According to the report, the attack followed an alleged dispute after Luka resisted cattle grazing on her farmland.
Troops who arrived at the scene found the victim with injuries, while the suspected attackers had fled before their arrival.
Luka was evacuated to a hospital for medical attention.
Security personnel have commenced efforts to track and apprehend the fleeing suspects for further investigation and appropriate legal action.
