Nysc shuts down camp amidst bandits alert across Kwara State

In a preemptive move against the current rage of banditry in the north, the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) management in kwara state has shut down its orientation camp pending improvement of security in the state.

With this development, the orientation camp located in.Yikpata, Moro council area of Kwara north senatorial zone has been emptied of activities.

Corp members have been relocated temporarily to Ilorin the state capital as a proactive measure against kidnapping for ransom and attacks by bandits.

This is coming at the hills of the slaughter of about 15 vigilantes killed on Sunday morning when armed bandits invaded Oke-Ode community in Ifelodun council Area of Kwara State.

More communities including Oke Odo where there is a School of Nursing were attacked by monday but the school was spared because students had earlier been relocated from the premises to avoid mass abduction which is a trade mark of bandits.

A large number of residents were also allegedly abducted during the attack, which left Oke Odo and surrounding communities in a state of shock and complete pandemonium.

These attacks were calculated in spite of the presence of vigilante groups in the communities, even as these bandits operated with superior weapons with nobody to repel them.

With more than 15 slaughtered in cold blood at the wee hours of Monday morning while those who escaped with injuries as at first light were taken to the General Hospital in nearby Share.

Angry residents accused the state government of failing to protect them, noting that intelligence about the planned attack had been circulating for days yet no efforts were made to protect them.

Communities across the state have raised alarm over repeated raids and mass abductions, often at night, with many residents still missing.

The increasing frequency of such attacks has heightened fear, displacement, and calls for urgent government intervention.

NAF STRIKES HOSTILE ELEMENTS, SUSTAINS PRESSURE IN MULTIPLE OPERATIONS IN KWARA

Meanwhile the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Air Component, OPERATION FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY) Sect 3, on 28 September 2025 conducted multiple coordinated missions across Kakihun, Oke-ode, Babanla and surrounding areas.

A statement by the director of public relations, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame said that the reconnaissance and close air support operations were executed to deter threats, while hostile elements sighted east of Babanla were decisively engaged.

“Concurrent surveillance flights also covered key settlements and military positions, gathering critical intelligence to support ground forces.

“These missions reaffirm NAF’s commitment to protecting troops and civilians, maintaining air superiority, and sustaining pressure on hostile actors. All operations were completed successfully.

” The NAF assures Nigerians of its unwavering resolve to defend the nation’s territorial integrity and safeguard communities against threats.

“Citizens are encouraged to remain confident, vigilant, and supportive of the Armed Forces as decisive actions continue to restore lasting peace and security across the country.”
