The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the death of one person and injury to another following a violent clash between Fulani herders and vigilantes in Fapo Village, Lapai Local Government Area.

Police sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident, which occurred on April 8 at about 10:00 p.m., was reported by one Usman Musa of Gidan-Mangoro, Minna, who stated that his sons, Habibu Usman and Abbas Usman, were returning from cattle rearing when they were allegedly intercepted by Fulani vigilantes.

According to the police, the refusal of the herders to stop led to a confrontation during which Abbas Usman was reportedly shot dead, while one of the vigilantes identified as Laulo Chairman from Fulani Camp Gulu Kandi sustained injuries.

The sources said that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Lapai promptly visited the scene and both the deceased and the injured were moved to the General Hospital in Suleja for autopsy and treatment, respectively.
