Palestinian Envoy Calls on ICRC to Verify Inhuman Treatment of Prisoners by Israel

The Palestinian Ambassador to Nigeria, Abdullah Shawesh has called on the International Committee of the Red Cross, (ICRC) to verify report of inhuman treatment of prisoners by the Israeli authorities.

Shawesh alleged that no fewer than 9,000 Palestinians are held behind bar by the Israeli government since October 7 retaliation.

The envoy, who spoke to journalists in Abuja on Thursday, decried that Palestinian prisoners in Israeli custody were being maltreatment and abused, adding that many of them are in miserable state .

He said: “More than 9000 Palestinians detainees in the Osraelo prisons have been subjected to unprecedented retaliatory and punitive measures since October 7th.

“In the occupied West Bank, 7170 Palestinian detainees have been held since October 7 up to today, including 215 women, 430 children, 52 journalists, and 3574 administrative detainees.”

He therefore called “On the ICRC to uphold its mandated duties in accordance with international law and visit the Israeli prisons and detention centres to verify the inhumane and miserable situation that the prisoners are subjected to.”

Armed bandits attacked dankashimo rafin-karma community in nagwamatse district of kontagora, niger state, killing a vigilante and kidnapping four persons.

Zagazola Makama gathered that the incident, which occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on june 12, was reported by the division police officer in kontagora. the suspects opened fire and killed a vigilante, identified as aliyu, before abducting four members of the community Faiza Aliyu, Ado Dikko, Maryam Gambo, Baraatu Naziru and Murja Lawal.

Security forces and locals to pursue the suspects, putting pressure on the abductors. this forced them to abandon their victims, who were later rescued unhurt and reunited with their families.

Police arrest suspected kidnap kingpin in FCT

The Nigerian Police Force in FCT has arrested a suspected kidnap kingpin, ya’u shittu, following a raid by its scorpion squad in mpape, fct.

Zagazola Makama learnt from sources that Shittu, 27, a native of kafanchan local government area in kaduna state, was arrest­ed at about 2:28 p.m. on june 13, 2025, after acting on actionable digital forensic intelligence.

A police sources in the FCT command said Shittu was wanted in connection with a series of kidnapping cases within the fct and its environs, including the kidnapping and subsequent killing of a pastor in mpape last year.

He said that during interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to participating in two major kidnapping operations, the first in Katampe, where the suspects received a ransom of N10 million, with Shittu personally pocketing N500,000 and the second at shishinpe 1, a community in Mpape.

Shittu further named eight members of his kidnapping syndicate, who are currently at large as police sources said efforts are ongoing to arrest the suspects and recover their operational weapons.
