Police Arrest 73 in Abuja Raids, Seize Illicit Drugs

The Nigerian Police Force, FCT Command has arrested 73 suspects during coordinated raids on black spots and criminal hideouts across Maitama, Kurudu, Galadima, and Karmo districts.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the raids, conducted by operatives from the Anti-Narcotic Unit and divisional commands, took place late Thursday night.
“Several uncompleted buildings and known criminal hideouts were searched, leading to the arrest of 73 suspects. Some quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, along with other illicit drugs, was recovered,” the source said.
The suspects are currently undergoing screening and interrogation at their respective divisions, and those found culpable will be charged to court, the source added.
Zagazola Makama reports that illicit drug trade has remained a major security threat in Abuja, with several black spots operating for decades.
The popular Nyanya night market and its environs have turned into booming hubs for all kinds of drugs, while Karu Abattoir is another well-known center for drug peddling.
Other notorious locations include Pipeline Junction at Gbazango Extension, Kukwaba by 37th Road behind Model Primary and Secondary School in Phase 3, Tipper Garage, and Gidan Dambe along Biyaji Road, where drugs are openly sold and consumed.
Sources revealed that a significant portion of drug supplies in the FCT comes from Kano and states in the South-West. Some dealers also rely on supply chains from Dei-Dei town in Abuja and Tafa in Kaduna State.
Dagba, a notorious drug hub within and outside Durumi, is widely known as a dangerous area where illicit transactions thrive. The “Torobola” hill, opposite Apo Roundabout linking Asokoro and Guzape District, is another key drug distribution point within the city.
Security sources disclosed that drugs are being delivered using power bikes, Commercial drivers, and motorcycle delivery services, Alarmingly, some unscrupulous security personnel are also allegedly involved in facilitating the illicit trade. Taking returns and looking away.
Security analysts have called for intensified efforts by the police and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to dismantle these networks.

Police arrest suspected gunrunners, recover eight firearms in Kaduna

Operatives of the Kaduna State Police Command have arrested two suspected gunrunners and recovered a cache of locally made weapons.
According to sources, the detectives acting on credible intelligence stormed Kurmin Kogi Village and apprehended the suspects Isah Bello, and Sa’idu Haruna, both of Damdami Village, Richifa Ward, Soba LGA.
The sources said the suspects confessed to being in possession of firearms and led investigators to their hideout, where four locally made guns and four locally made pistols were recovered.
The sources added that the suspects are in custody as discreet investigations continue.

Man attacked with hoe over alleged affair in Gombe

Security personnel in Gombe have arrested a man for allegedly attacking another with a hoe over claims of adultery.
Sources told Zagazola Makama the incident occurred on Thursday at about 6:30 p.m. in Shongo Kagadama Village, Kwami Local Government Area, when one Musa Usman allegedly confronted Abdulmumini Misa, 38, accusing him of having an affair with his wife.
The suspect struck the victim on the head and injured his fingers on both hands, leaving him with serious wounds.
The victim was taken to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, where he is receiving treatment.
The sources say the suspect has been arrested and is under investigation.

Bandits attack Zamfara village, abduct residents; 4 rescued, 9 security operatives missing

Armed bandits in large numbers attacked the outskirts of Adabka Village in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Thursday night, abducting several residents.
Zagazola learnt that the incident occurred on Thursday at about 8:32 p.m., prompting a swift response from joint security forces stationed in the area.
A fierce gun battle ensued, leading to the rescue of four abducted persons. However, two Police Mobile Force (PMF) personnel and seven members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) were reported missing after the clash.
Security sources said search and rescue efforts are underway to locate the missing operatives and any other abducted villagers.
