Police Arrest Four Suspected Kidnappers, Rescue Four Victims in Lagos-Ogun Border

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested four suspected kidnappers and rescued four victims held in captivity at Oke Aro, a border community between Lagos and Ogun states.

Police sources confirmed that one of the victims, Okorie Henry, managed to escape and reported the case at the Iju Police Division at about 3:30 p.m. on March 31. Henry told the police that he and four others had been forcefully taken into custody by a group of armed hoodlums.

He was able to convince his captors that he had received money in his account and needed to withdraw it at a bank. During the trip, he fled and alerted the authorities.

Following his report, a police team was mobilized to the scene, leading to the rescue of four victims: Otoh Chisom (20), Okeke Kwufrochukwu (26), Uchenna Obeji (26), and Minachi Udochukwu (12).

The police also arrested four suspects identified as Chibike Iheijika (23), Stanley Iheijika (22), Obiora Oyedibe (26), and Emmanuel Onedibe (25).

The command said investigations are ongoing to apprehend other accomplices and determine the full extent of the criminal operation.

Female suicide bomber kills 24 in borno food joint attack in Konduga

The Borno State Police Command has confirmed that at least 24 people were killed and several others injured in a suicide bombing carried out by a female terrorist in Konduga town, about 36 kilometres from Maiduguri, the state capital.

Police sources told Zagazola Makama that the attack occurred at about 10:00 p.m. on June 20, 2025, when the suicide bomber detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) at a local food joint where residents had gathered in large numbers to buy food.

The Police sources said the explosion resulted in the fatal wounding of 24 persons, both male and female, while an unspecified number of others sustained varying degrees of injuries. The body of the suicide bomber was torn apart by the blast, with only the head recovered.

Following the incident, a joint team comprising Military and Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) units, Tactical Teams, Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), and local hunters visited the scene.

The area was cordoned off and thoroughly searched for other potential explosive devices, but none were found. Normalcy has since been restored to the area.

The injured victims were evacuated to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), where they are receiving treatment, while the corpses of the deceased were also deposited at the same hospital. Medical personnel on duty certified the dead victims.

The police said efforts are ongoing to profile the victims and release the corpses to their families for burial in accordance with religious rites.

Security has been strengthened across Konduga to forestall further attacks.

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a notorious wanted gang leader, Wasiu Akinwade, in a major breakthrough against criminal activities in the state.

Zagazola Makama learnt from reliable sources that Akinwade, alleged to be the mastermind of several armed robbery and violent crimes in the Mushin area and its environs, was apprehended on Friday night in his hideout at Agbado, Ogun State.

The sources said that the arrest followed sustained intelligence and multiple failed attempts by the Police Tactical Squad to apprehend the suspect, according to a police source.

Items recovered from the suspect include two AK-47 rifles, one K2 assault rifle, one Red Ryder rifle, three pump-action rifles, two locally made single-barrel pistols, five magazines, and 57 live cartridges.

Also recovered were 70 rounds of 5.56mm live ammunition, 27 rounds of 9mm ammunition, one expended 5.56mm round, a dagger, three walkie-talkies, and nine international passports bearing different names.

Police authorities described the arrest as a significant step in curbing gang violence and arms proliferation in Lagos.

The sources added that the suspect is currently in custody, and further investigations are ongoing to track his associates and dismantle the wider network.

Suicide Bomber Kills 10, Injures 7 in Konduga Fish Market

A suspected Boko Haram suicide bomber on Friday night detonated an explosive device at a crowded fish market in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State, killing 10 people and injuring seven others.

Security sources and eyewitnesses confirmed to Zagazola Makama that the attacker infiltrated the market disguised as a civilian before setting off the explosives.

The blast, which occurred around claimed the lives of the bomber and 10 civilians on the spot, while seven others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

The Nigerian Army troops and emergency response teams were immediately deployed to the scene, and the injured victims were evacuated to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

Military and security personnel have since cordoned off the area to avoid further infiltration of other suspected bombers.
