Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a notorious wanted gang leader, Wasiu Akinwade, in a major breakthrough against criminal activities in the state.

Zagazola Makama learnt from reliable sources that Akinwade, alleged to be the mastermind of several armed robbery and violent crimes in the Mushin area and its environs, was apprehended on Friday night in his hideout at Agbado, Ogun State.

The sources said that the arrest followed sustained intelligence and multiple failed attempts by the Police Tactical Squad to apprehend the suspect, according to a police source.

Items recovered from the suspect include two AK-47 rifles, one K2 assault rifle, one Red Ryder rifle, three pump-action rifles, two locally made single-barrel pistols, five magazines, and 57 live cartridges.

Also recovered were 70 rounds of 5.56mm live ammunition, 27 rounds of 9mm ammunition, one expended 5.56mm round, a dagger, three walkie-talkies, and nine international passports bearing different names.

Police authorities described the arrest as a significant step in curbing gang violence and arms proliferation in Lagos.

The sources added that the suspect is currently in custody, and further investigations are ongoing to track his associates and dismantle the wider network.
