The Police in Bauchi State on Saturday arrested seven suspects following a violent clash between commercial motorcyclists, popularly known as achaba, and transport officials in Bauchi metropolis.

Sources told Zagazola that the incident occurred at about 9:30 a.m. when some motorcycle operators had an altercation with Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIOs) in the Yelwa area.

The sources said the motorcyclists later moved to the Bauchi State Road Transport Agency (BAROTA) office along Gombe Road and the VIO office on Jos Road, where they destroyed property.

“Four vehicle windshields at the BAROTA office were shattered, while the rear glass door of a Toyota Corolla car with registration number TRR-770 AA, blue in colour, belonging to one June Twelve, 49, was damaged near the VIO office,” he said.

According to the sources, police teams were swiftly deployed to the scenes, dispersed the mob, and arrested seven suspects in connection with the unrest.
