Police arrests 2 couples with criminal intentions in Yobe

Yobe State Police Command has succeeded in the arrest of a couple, namely: Abdullahi Ibrahim, aged 25, and Khadija Ali, aged 20, who disguised as Christians and trick-rolled their unsuspecting victims by claiming to convert to Islam and robbed them of their valuables.

Police Public Relations Officer( PPRO) on Thursday, in a statement said on 4th June 2023, at about 1600hrs, they approached Gudi Emirates Council in Fika LGA, saying that they were from Plateau State and intended to convert to Islam, and presented themselves as Jude Emmanuel, a Birom tribe from Farar Kasa via Barikin Ladi Jos, Plateau State with his wife Peace Sunday. They were subsequently accepted and converted to Islam and, as such, placed in the custody of the Chief Imam to accommodate them for teaching and proper guidance.
A day later, Mr Abdullahi informed the Imam that he was having bad dreams and needed debris from thunder stroke spot to collect some ash and prepare medicine for his ailments. The Imam assigned one of his sons to take him to a nearby bush for a possibly affected spot; having got a spot of thunder stroke the suspect collected some dust and left with it to their abode.
In a similar vein, on the third day, he requested to be taken to the spot to collect some dust for his Wife, and the Imam obliged and asked his son to help them get there with his motorcycle; where on the spot, the culprits robbed the Iman’s son of his motorcycle and fled.
The matter was later reported at the Fika Divisional Police headquarters, where immediate efforts commenced to trail the culprits.
On 1st July, information reached the Division that the couple was sighted in Biu LGA of Borno State perpetrating similar acts. and fortunately, on 5th July 2023 at 1400hrs, Detectives from the Division reacted and apprehended the suspects.
Meanwhile, Investigation revealed that Mr Abdullahi is indigent of Yobe State, and both are Muslim with the names: Abdullahi Ibrahim of Sabon Garin Mai Mala of Gujba LGA and Khadija Ali of Gombe State.
Information also indicated that the couple is habitual criminals leaving footprints in Azare of Bauchi State, Golam in Adamawa State, Madaci Gaya in Kano State and Biu LGA of Borno State, among other states.
They have confessed to the crimes alleged of stealing, robbery and abduction, whereas the motorcycle had been recovered in Alkeleri town of Bauchi State.
Furthermore, the investigation is currently ongoing by the affected commands as information about their arrest is circulated.
In this regard, the Commissioner of Police, CP Garba Ahmed, urges good members of the public to be conscious of these types of impostors. Always report visitor(s) in such disguises to the nearest police station for proper interview and documentation before the conversion to any religion or for any other purposes. This will no doubt help in protecting lives and property.
