Police arrests 42 members of IMN in Abuja, As Stray bullet kills 2 in Borno

Police in the FCT have arrested 42 members of the proscribed Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) over violent protests in the territory on Tuesday.

DSP Josephine Adeh, spokesperson for the police, told the Newsmen that the protesters came from Niger, Bauchi, Gombe, Borno and Kaduna states to cause mayhem in the FCT.

She said the suspects were carrying charms, stones and some minor explosives with them and were nabbed at the Kubwa-Gwarimpa axis of Abuja.

She added that they stormed the area in large numbers, obstructing traffic and throwing stones and explosives at police operatives.

Adeh said police operatives had been able to disperse the protesters and brought the situation under control.

According to her, no casualty was recorded but some of the protesters sustained injuries.

Meanwhile, a stray bullet killed one soldier and a civilian in Borno State, northeast Nigeria, NEWSng reported. 

The soldier, and civilian, was killed when Boko Haram terrorists attacked a military formation in Njimtilo, on Monday.

Njimtilo is located along the Maiduguri Damaturu road and less than 20km from Maiduguri the Borno state capital where clashes between the Nigerian military and Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists have been engaging since the early days of the conflict in North-east Nigeria.

It was gathered that the terrorists sneaked close to the military formation metres to the Borno State University on foot, and began shooting sporadically.

“Troops of the Nigerian Army, who were taken unaware by the ambush, stood their ground to repel the attack.

“Unfortunately, one civilian and a soldier lost their lives after they were hit by a stray bullet,” a local source disclosed.
