Police confirm killing of notorious robber Halifa Baba-Beru in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a notorious armed robbery suspect, Halifa Baba-Beru, during an operation by its patrol team.

The suspect, identified as a resident of Gwammaja Quarters in Dala Local Government Area, was arrested on Tuesday afternoon by officers attached to the Dala Division.

Police sources told Zagazola Makama that the arrest occurred around 1:00 p.m., but the situation turned violent when Baba-Beru’s accomplices attacked the patrol team in an attempt to rescue him.

Two officers, Corporal Abdullahi Ibrahim and Sergeant Yahaya Saidu, sustained serious injuries during the confrontation, while the suspect also sustained gunshot wounds.

“The injured policemen and the suspect were rushed to the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, where the suspect was confirmed dead while receiving treatment,”the sources said.

Police said said investigation into the incident is ongoing and efforts are being intensified to apprehend the fleeing accomplices.

It reassured residents of its commitment to maintaining public safety and urged citizens to provide useful information that could assist in apprehending criminal elements across the state.
