The Plateau State Police Command has arrested and detained a police inspector, Ohis Amu, for allegedly causing the death of a truck assistant, Mohammed Yusuf, during an altercation at a checkpoint in Jos South Local Government Area.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred on March 14 at about 11:35 p.m. when a Daf truck with registration number GME 359 XD was stopped at a police nipping point in Mararaban Jama’a.
During a disagreement between Yusuf, 27, of Gombe State, and officers on duty, Inspector Amu allegedly struck him on the head with a stick, causing serious injuries.
Yusuf was rushed to the hospital for treatment but was later confirmed dead by medical personnel. In response, aggrieved individuals blocked the road in protest, disrupting traffic flow.
Sources from the Plateau Police Command confirmed that the accused officer was immediately arrested, detained, and will face disciplinary action and prosecution.
