A Nigerian Lawyer, Barrister Musa Adamu has advocated for women to occupy 35 percent of political positions, stating that the constitution is not gender discriminatory.

Barrister Adamu stated this on Saturday, while expressing his views on women and politics in Nigeria.

He observed that although women have been seen leading protests to get things done and in the process some of them gain recognition and have formed part of a government, protest or leading one however, should never be part of women struggling to draw attention.

According to him, “My major concern is that it is discriminatory for the constitution to reserve certain number of seat to any gender. I don’t mind seeing women occupying 35 percent of political office’s, I don’t mind seeing women occupying 35 percent of legislative offices after all the constitution is not gender discriminatory.” He said.

He said that, if women are resolute and determined as they appear to be, let them come to political platforms and contest.

“We have seen their power in this protest and that is why great women like Okunife , Nnena , zainab Gimba, Abike irewa, Binani, Senator Bent, Linda Ikpeazu,  Hon khadija Abba Ibrahim ,Ammuna khadi, Aisha Dukku   Akwashki , Oluremi Tinubu , Binta koji, Stella Adua  Hairat Gwadabe and host of others .

“These are women who struggle amongst men and have their way. Any woman who puts on a strong fight with resolute and determination will have her way. I am a strong advocate of women’s rights because women are our mothers, Aunties and sisters. I do not want them to go on this fruitless, unconstitutional demand for a certain percentage of legislative seats.” He said

He observed that it doesn’t make sense, and it is highly unrealistic and untrainable.

“Let the lawyers amongst them give them the right advice on this issue .Women are decent, they should adopt a decent way of going about. Protest is not compatible with the esteemed status of women; it may be hijacked and turned into something sinister. Let us be very careful.” Adamu said
