Protest: 7 polish arrested in Kano

No fewer than seven Polish have been arrested in connection with the use of foreign flags in the protest in Kano.

The suspects have been transferred to Abuja for further interrogation, according to source.

The suspects were said to be students in one of the tertiary institutions in Kano.

The Spokesperson of the Directorate of State Service, Peter Afunanya made the disclosure on Wednesday while responding to the Polish Ambassador to Nigeria on the whereabouts of the suspects during the briefing of the Diplomatic Corps by Nigeria’s Minister, Yusuf Tuggar on the ongoing nationwide protest.

Afunanya said they were found during the protest displaying foreign flags in Kano.

He noted that they were picked as a result of security enforcement because of where they were and not targeted at the Polish.

He said: “For the persons we have picked up from Kano because of where they were found during the protest and display of foreign flag in Kano that was two days ago and as a responsible security organisation we owe it an obligation to do some verification and ascertain basic reasons and circumstances for some cases.”

He added: “They were picked as a result of security enforcement because of where they were when the incident happened. It is not a targeted operation on behalf of my Director General and DSS and Nigeria.

“As the foremost domestic security organisation, we believe we have to work in sync with all of you who are men and county of goodwill and our operations must be governed by democratic principles and protocol that emphasises freedom and human rights and of course intelligence and security governance we obey all of this whether we are dealing with Nigerians or foreigners.

“But we have a plea, in the cause of the discharged of our duty we will also see that some of Nigerians definitely would want to use foreign lands as a lunch pad’s to attack domestic peace and stability, we plead that you do not offer your country to some person who may be deviance or have terrorist inclination in today’s global pursuit if anything happened in a country it’s affect the others. Nigeria is a country with a large population and I believe that the support other countries will give will help us.”

One killed, livestock rustled as bandits attack Fulani settlements in Katsina

Suspected armed bandits have killed one person and rustled livestock following attacks on two Fulani settlement camps on the outskirts of Kauyen Gabas Village, Karare District, Rimi Local Government Area of Katsina State.

A source told Zagazola Makama on Monday that the attacks occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on Dec. 20.

According to the source, the bandits entered the settlements, shot one person fatally, and made away with an unascertained number of livestock.

“Troops and other security forces from the neighboring areas have blocked anticipated exit routes, and cordon and search operations are ongoing to apprehend the suspects and recover the rustled animals,” the source said.

Residents in the area have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements to ensure safety and security.

Troops intercept vehicles conveying suspected ISWAP logistics in Yobe

Troops of Sector 2 of the Nigerian Army in collaboration with Civilian Joint Task Force intercepted two pickup vans conveying assorted items suspected to be logistics supplies for the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Borno State.

Sources told Zagazola Makama that the interception followed credible human intelligence indicating the movement of the items from Dapchi through the Magumeri general area.

According to the source, the troops intercepted the vehicles during the operation and took the drivers into custody for further interrogation.

Items recovered from the two vehicles included 31 spare tyres, 23 spare rims, two bicycles, 12 key starters, three alternators, two bags of flour, one mattress, five bags of charcoal, 34 tubers of yam, two blankets, nylon bags containing garri, adult and children clothing, one power bank, six mobile phones and a cash sum of N92,600.

The source added that the vehicles and recovered items were currently in custody, while investigations were ongoing to determine the extent of the suspects’ involvement and possible links to ISWAP logistics networks.

The troops, the source said, remained committed to disrupting the movement of supplies to terrorist groups and maintaining pressure on criminal elements across the area of responsibility.

Police repel Boko Haram attack on Gujba Division in Yobe

The Yobe State Police Command says it has successfully repelled a coordinated attack by suspected Boko Haram Terrorist (BHT) elements on the Gujba Police Division in Gujba Local Government Area of the state.

Sources told Zagazola Makama that the attack occurred late Thursday night but was promptly resisted by officers on duty at the formation.

According to the source, there was no casualty recorded among police personnel during the attack, while no arms were lost and no damage was done to patrol vehicles.

“The hoodlums were repelled promptly. There was no casualty on our personnel, no arm was lost and no patrol vehicle was damaged,” the source said.

He added that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Gujba Division was conducting a detailed assessment of the incident and would submit a comprehensive report to the command.

The source noted that Gujba and its environs remained one of the notorious flashpoints for insurgent activities in Yobe State.

As at the time of filing this report, the Yobe State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the incident, while security around the area had been reinforced to forestall further attacks.
