Renewed ISWAP–Boko Haram faction clash leaves dozens dead in Abadam, Borno

Dozens of fighters were killed on both sides on Tuesday following a renewed violent encounter between the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and elements of the Bukura faction loyal to Abu Umaima along the Lake Chad Basin axis of Abadam Local Government Area of Borno.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the clash broke out between 6:00 a.m. and about 10:15 a.m. around Dogon Chiku Buhari village, a border settlement in Abadam LGA, barely one kilometre from the Nigeria–Niger frontier.
The sources said the Bukura faction fighters, believed to be operating from settlements around the Lake Chad Basin on the Niger Republic side, engaged ISWAP elements resident on the Nigerian side of the border.
“The fighting took place around Dogon Chiku Buhari, east of Tubum Mota and the Bosso–Diffa axis in Niger Republic. It lasted several hours and resulted in heavy casualties on both sides,” a source said.
Tubum Mota village, is located east of Malam Fatori, about 19 kilometres from the town, which has remained a flashpoint for rival extremist groups.
The renewed violence is rooted in longstanding rivalries within the jihadist ecosystem. ISWAP has sought to consolidate authority across the basin by absorbing or eliminating splinter groups, while the Bukura/Abu Umaima faction has resisted subordination, relying on cross-border mobility and local alliances.
The border’s porous nature allows fighters to shift bases quickly, complicating counterterrorism operations by Nigerian and MNJTF forces.

Troops of Operation Enduring Peace Arrest Two Suspected Drug Peddlers in Plateau

Troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have arrested two suspected drug peddlers during a stop-and-search operation at Sabon Gari checkpoint in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Security sources said the suspects, identified as Mr. Jerry Joshua, 45, and Mr. Williams Nwaso, 54, were intercepted at about 6:00 a.m. on June 15 at the checkpoint.
The troops, who were conducting routine security checks, reportedly discovered a large quantity of substances suspected to be cannabis sativa in their possession.
The suspects and the recovered exhibits have been taken into custody for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Security authorities said the arrest is part of ongoing efforts by Operation Enduring Peace to curb drug trafficking and other criminal activities within Plateau State.
Investigations are ongoing.

Troops Discover Corpse Along Road in Bokkos, Plateau State

Troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have discovered the corpse of a man along a road in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Security sources said the troops of Sector 5, Bokkos, responded at about 9:45 a.m. on June 15 following a report of a suspicious object along the Butura Kampani–Mandung road.
On arrival at the scene, the troops reportedly found the body of a man later identified as Mr. Dasharo Haruna, from Maihakorin Gold Village in Bokkos Local Government Area.
The corpse was subsequently evacuated by Keystone Bokkos Division for necessary procedures.
Security authorities said investigations have commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The general area has since been secured, while efforts are ongoing to maintain peace and prevent any breakdown of law and order.

Mob Sets Tricycle Ablaze After Suspected Phone Snatchers Attack Woman in Jos

Security operatives under Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have restored order following a public disturbance and mob action at Zololo Junction in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
A security source said troops responded at about 1:00 p.m. on June 15 after receiving reports that suspected criminals operating in a commercial tricycle (Keke NAPEP) had robbed a female passenger of her mobile phone and pushed her out of the moving vehicle.
The source disclosed that the incident triggered outrage among bystanders, who intercepted the tricycle and apprehended two suspects.
According to the source, the angry mob set the tricycle ablaze in retaliation.
Security operatives of Keystone intervened promptly and rescued the suspects from being lynched, subsequently handing them over to the police for further investigation and necessary action.
The source added that normalcy was restored to the area, with free flow of traffic re-established shortly after the intervention.
Authorities cautioned residents against taking laws into their own hands and urged the public to report criminal activities to security agencies for proper action.
