Save the Children supports nearly 9,000 women on MSMES in Borno

International governmental organization, Save the Children have supported a total of number of nine thousand seven hundred and ninety (9,792) households engaging  on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMES) to boost the food sufficient and protection of children affected by the conflicts.

Deputy Director of Programme Operations of the Save the Children, Mr Chachu Tadicha stated this at an event of 2023 World Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Day with theme,”Unlocking the Potentials of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises”held at the Maiduguri.

Mr Chachu who represented by Food Security and Livelihood Sector Lead,Mr Nwari Ihechi explained that the gesture was necessitated by the shrinking of the donor funding on food assistance which they have been providing to households in the emergency situation as a result of the insurgency since 2016.

“Save the Children has been given food assistance in Borno since 2016 and we have been empowering people thorough livelihood support. Now, with the shrinking of donor funding in food assistance. We have to empower these women to achieve food security for their families; so put together we have empowered nearly 9,000 households.

” For this particular project, we empower 5,792 women and for our project that ended last year we empowered 3000 women in businesses. These are vulnerable people affected by the conflict and mostly from municipal and Jere councils in Borno state.

“Our overall goal is food security and sufficiency, and household resilience, for us at Save the Children to ensure that every child are protected, survives and learns.”he said.

He added that the development have contributed in their transition from food assistance to strengthen the beneficiaries to explore Markets opportunities in order to be self reliance.

Food Security and Livelihood Sector Lead further added that Save the Children have also empowered over three thousand (3000) households in similar project that ended last year which in total over nine thousand households were trained and supported for businesses.

Mr Nwari Ihechi stressed that their overall goal in this project are long time food Security, households resiliance and food sufficiency as well as to ensure every child survive, learn and protected.

The event also witnessed the presence benefitting households who came along with their various products for exhibition which the Save the Children brought NAFDAC, and Corporate Affairs Commission to certify and register their businesses for sustainability as well as Today’s Store for quality assurance.

Save the Children further urges a swift implementation of the National Policy on MSMEs for employment generation, Wealth creation, poverty reduction and growth of the Nigerian economy.

Troops Repel Bandit Attack, Rescue Lower Sharia Court Judge in Katsina State

Troops have successfully repelled a bandit attack in Mahuta Village, Dandume Local Government Area (LGA), Katsina State, and rescued a prominent local judge, Mr. Rabiu Tukur, following the abduction of six residents on April 8, 2025.

Zagazola Makama informed by security sources that three attack occurred around 11:55 p.m. when armed bandits stormed the village, kidnapping six individuals, including Mr. Tukur, a 49-year-old judge with the Lower Sharia Court, Dandume.

The troops engaged the bandits in a fierce confrontation, successfully rescuing Mr. Tukur without any harm.

Efforts to locate and rescue the remaining five victims are ongoing, with security forces intensifying search and rescue operations in the surrounding areas.

Clash Between Commuters and Customs Officers Leads to Accident and Mob Violence in Maiadua, Kastina

A clash between a Customs patrol team and commuters resulted in a serious accident at Koza Village, Maiadua Local Government Area (LGA), on April 8, 2025, at around 8:35 p.m.

Sources told Zagazola Makama that the Customs team was in pursuit of a commuter vehicle when the incident occurred.

In the aftermath, an angry mob set fire to the Customs camp in retaliation for the accident. The situation escalated, but the Division Police Officer (DPO) quickly mobilized police personnel to the scene to restore order.

As of now, the situation has been brought under control, and an investigation is underway to ascertain the details surrounding the incident.

Bandit Attack Foiled in Musawa LGA Kastina As Nine Kidnapped Victims Rescued

In a daring rescue operation, the security forces successfully foiled a kidnapping attempt and rescued nine victims from armed bandits on April 9, 2025, at approximately 1:25 a.m.

Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the suspected armed bandits, riding motorcycles, stormed Farin Dutse in Dangani, Musawa Local Government Area, and abducted several individuals.

However, the timely response from the Division Police Officer (DPO), who mobilized a Joint APC Patrol to the scene, led to a fierce gun battle with the bandits.

In the aftermath of the engagement, six females and three males were rescued and swiftly transported to the General Hospital Musawa for medical attention.

The victims are reported to be in stable condition.
