Second Term: Borno APC Asks Tinubu Not to Leave Their Son, Shettima in the Lurch

All Progressives Congress (APC) Stakeholders in Borno State have called on President Bola Tinubu not to leave their son, his Vice President Kashim Shettima in the lurch, asking him to tag along with him for his second term in office.
Rising from a meeting at the Borno State Government House in Maiduguri on Sunday, the Stakeholders said both Tinubu and Shettima are a great team. They expressed total and unalloyed loyalty and support to the Federal Government of Nigeria under the able leadership of President Bola Tinubu.
The communique issued at the end of the meeting has the following resolution: The
total and unalloyed loyalty and support to the Federal Government of Nigeria under the able leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR. The Meeting also endorsed the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu Administration. The meeting wished Mr President and VP God’s guidance and protection, and a successful tenure.
The Meeting also commended the commitment of the Vice President His Excellency Senator Kashim Shettima GCON to the mandate of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The meeting called on Vice President Shettima to remain loyal to his Boss Mr President, and continue to serve diligently to promote the laudable policies of Mr President. The meeting prayed for Mr President to retrain His Excellency Senator Kashim Shettima as his VP for his second term.
The Meeting expressed total confidence in the administration of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum CON, mni, FNSE, FNIAE, and charged the Governor not to be distracted in his noble campaign of recovering Borno from the shackles of insurgency, terrorism and criminality.
The Meeting resolved that Borno State remains a progressive state under the APC, and urged the people of Borno to remain committed to the progressive ideals that have served the people of Borno since independence. The meeting reaffirmed that the APC shall remain the indisputable platform for democratic politics in Borno State. It would be counterproductive to deviate from the principles and manifesto of the APC, and therefore urged party faithfuls to remain firmly faithful and resolute in pomoting the APC governments at State and federal levels.
The Meeting resolved that Borno shall remain in APC no Merger or change of political party.
The meeting called on party faithfuls not to engage in actions that will dent the image of the APC. The progressive spirit that has influenced Borno politics since Nigeria’s independence should be sustained consciously and in unity and solidarity.
The Meeting called on APC Leadership to continue to strengthen party machinery and internal democracy so that the party will continue to wield power in Nigeria.
The party called on faithfuls to discontenance the ongoing moves by some elements within the party to cause disunity in the ranks of the APC. The party in Borno State is not ready for any such moves in the meantime.
- The Meeting called on the Federal Government under the watch of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR to continue to support programmes that will promote development, security and development in Borno State.
The meeting appealed to Mr President to continue the oil exploration in the Northeast region especially at Kolmani and the shores of the Lake Kchad. In addition, the meeting further appealed to Mr president to invest in road infrastructure in the Northeast region to make it more secure and prosperous.
In attendance were almost all notable members of the party with the Vice President Kashim Shettima, the only known big gun absent.

A 32-year-old man, identified as Mr Gideon Luka from Mangu but resident in Sabon Gida, has been killed in an isolated attack along Sabon Gida axis in Gyel District of Plateau State.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the troops of Operation Steadfast Peace (OPEP) were alerted to the incident and swiftly mobilised to the scene, where the victim was discovered with machete injuries on the forehead and stomach.
According to an eyewitness, Mr Dogara Peter, who was with the deceased before the incident, the attack occurred on April 19 at about 7:00 p.m. when both men were riding on a motorcycle from Sabon Gida to SOT area in Gyel District.
The eyewitness said they were ambushed near Sabon Gida Primary School by two unidentified youths, one of whom was reportedly armed with a stick.
He explained that he managed to escape during the attack and initially believed his companion had also fled the scene.
However, residents later launched a search in the early hours of the morning and discovered the victim’s body.
Security sources confirmed that the victim was evacuated for assessment, while troops extended condolences to the family and urged residents not to take the law into their own hands.
They added that preliminary investigation had commenced to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.

One killed, three injured as gunmen attack Plateau community in reprisal over livestock incident

Gunmen suspected to be Fulani bandits have killed one person and injured three others in an attack on Shonong community in Bachi District, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, in a sustained reprisal attack linked to an earlier livestock-related incident.
Security sources said the attack occurred at about 8:40 p.m. on April 19 when the armed men invaded the community and opened fire on residents.
The sources said the assault was believed to be in retaliation over the killing of nine livestock in the area, an incident that had heightened tensions between farming and herding communities in the locality.
Troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) deployed in the area reportedly came under fire while responding to the attack and engaged the assailants in a gun duel, forcing them to withdraw after a heavy exchange of fire.
Reinforcement teams were later deployed and moved into the community to stabilise the situation and restore order.
According to the sources, the attackers killed a woman identified as Mrs Fibi Solomon, while three others — Mr Solomon, Master Jacob Solomon and Miss Jacobeth Solomon — sustained gunshot wounds.
The injured victims were evacuated to the General Hospital in Riyom for treatment, alongside the remains of the deceased.
Troops also rescued 12 civilians comprising three men, six women and three children, who were relocated to nearby Fang village for safety.
Security sources added that troops had intensified pursuit operations to track down the fleeing attackers, while the general area remained calm but tense.

Yobe: Baba Malam Wali paid condolences to Senator Mustapha

The immediate past secretary to the Yobe State Government, Alhaji Baba Malam Wali mni, today paid a condolence visit to Senator Musa Mustapha, senator representing Yobe East in the National Assembly, following the death of his mother-in-law, the late Hajiya Fatima Mustapha Jibrin.
This was contained in a statement issued and signed by his press secretary, Alhaji Shuaibu Abdullahi, made available to newsmen in Damaturu, the state capital.
During the visit, the former secretary to the state government, Baba Malam Wali mni, offered prayers for the peaceful repose of the deceased’s soul.
He urged the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss with fortitude, noting that death is inevitable and a path that every mortal must take.
Hajiya Fatima Mustapha Jibrin passed away yesterday, Thursday, 16th April 2026, in Damaturu, the Yobe state capital. She was buried the same day in accordance with Islamic injunction.
Baba Malam Wali further prayed to Almighty Allah SWT to forgive the shortcomings of the late Hajiya Fatima, have mercy on her, and grant her Al-Jannatul Fiddausi as her final abode.
