A communal clash between youths of Gidan Haki and Basasa villages in Kware Local Government Area of Sokoto State has led to the death of two persons and left nine others seriously injured.

Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred on April 13 at about 9:00 a.m. during a wedding ceremony where a misunderstanding reportedly broke out between youths from the two neighbouring communities, escalating into a violent free-for-all fight.

Despite efforts by the security team to restore calm, quell the violence and prevent further escalation, two male victims from Gidan Haki village whose identities are yet to be confirmed were confirmed dead at the scene.

Nine others sustained various degrees of injuries and were immediately taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

A Police sources said 15 male suspects have so far been arrested in connection with the clash and are currently in custody, assisting with the investigation.

The sources said that the Commissioner of Police in Sokoto State has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take over the case for detailed investigation, while security presence in the affected areas has been intensified with continuous visibility patrols to forestall further disturbances.

ISWAP confirms death of Abu Yahya Al-Muhajir, Shura Council member in Malam Fatori axis attack

By: Zagazola Makama

The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has confirmed the death of a prominent member of its Shura Council, Abu Yahya Al-Muhajir, describing it as a major loss to the group.

The confirmation was contained in a statement and propaganda material circulated by the group, in which it mourned the deceased and referred to his death as its “greatest loss in recent times” within the Malam Fatori axis.

Security sources said Al-Muhajir was reportedly linked to recent operations in the Lake Chad Basin, although it remains unclear whether he was killed during a failed attack on Malam Fatori or as a result of a subsequent airstrike in the same general area.

The sources further indicated that the ISWAP attack on Malam Fatori was repelled by troops, with about 80 terrorists reportedly killed during the encounter and follow-up operations.

They added that the group’s internal communication suggested that Al-Muhajir either sustained fatal injuries during the failed offensive or died later from wounds sustained in the aftermath of military strikes.

Zagazola report that the 18 March 2026 failed attack left about 84 ISWAP members killed with many others who sustained injuries.

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have repelled a coordinated attack by suspected terrorists on a Forward Operating Base in Biu Local Government Area of Borno, recovering weapons and inflicting losses on the attackers.

A military source said the incident occurred at about 12:28 a.m. on March 28, when insurgents launched a multi-front assault on troops at Forward Operating Base Mandaragirau.

The source disclosed that the troops, already positioned in ambush, engaged the attackers in a fierce exchange, killing several of them and forcing others to retreat.

“Troops effectively engaged the terrorists from their ambush positions, compelling them to flee in disarray,” the source said.

He added that troops pursued the fleeing insurgents along their withdrawal routes, during which additional casualties were inflicted on them.

“During exploitation, troops discovered the bodies of four neutralised terrorists and recovered five AK-47 rifles, eight magazines, two rocket-propelled grenade bombs and quantities of ammunition,” he said.

The source noted that visible blood stains along the escape routes indicated that more casualties were inflicted on the fleeing insurgents.

He, however, said the troops also recorded casualties during the encounter.

“Some soldiers sustained injuries in action, while two members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) lost their lives and two others are currently missing in action,” he said.

The sources added that the wounded personnel had been evacuated to the Cantonment Medical Centre in Biu for treatment, while exploitation operations are ongoing to track down the fleeing insurgents.
