Soldier kills robbery suspect during attempted escape from Minna barracks

A suspected armed robber was shot and killed by a soldier during a failed attempt to flee with a stolen motorcycle from the Nigerian Army’s 31 Artillery Brigade Tradoc Cantonment in Minna, Niger State.
Zagazola Makama gathered that the incident occurred on June 23 at about 4:40 a.m. when an officer of the Nigerian Army Corps Military Police, Idris Isah, who was on routine patrol within the cantonment, encountered two unidentified men attempting to push a motorcycle through a rear section of the barracks fence.
According to a preliminary report, when the officer challenged them, one of the suspects attempted to attack him with a machete, prompting the soldier to open fire in self-defence. The bullet struck one of the suspects in the left side of his body.
The injured suspect was immediately taken to the Military Hospital, where he was later confirmed dead. His identity is yet to be ascertained.
Following the incident, detectives led by the Divisional Crime Officer, ASP Dakum Koptikhin, visited the scene. Photographs were taken and relevant exhibits were recovered. The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) Specialist Hospital mortuary.

Troops repel ISWAP attack in Chibok, two killed, two injured by stray bullets

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai on Monday repelled a daring assault by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on Shikarkir Village in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State.
Zagazola Makama gathered that the insurgents, who stormed the village at about 5:20 p.m., were met with swift resistance from troops, assisted by local vigilantes and hunters. Security forces engaged the attackers in a gun duel, forcing them to retreat after sustaining unspecified casualties.
However, during the exchange of fire, four civilians were struck by stray bullets. Two of the victims, identified as Ishaku Markson, 30, and Buba Zakariya, 28, sustained fatal injuries and were later confirmed dead at the General Hospital in Chibok.
Two others Yama Wadai, 41, and Maina Fali were wounded and are currently receiving treatment at the same facility. Medical personnel confirmed both are responding well to treatment.

Sokoto police arrest notorious bandit, recover AK-47 rifle

Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Sokoto have arrested a suspected notorious bandit, leading to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle.
Police sources told Zagazola Makama that the arrest was made on June 23 at about 6:30 a.m. following actionable intelligence.
The suspect, identified as Rabi’u Antoro, was taken into custody and during interrogation confessed to being in possession of a firearm.
Following the confession, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, on June 24, recovered one AK-47 rifle.

Armed bandit kills rival in Zamfara, triggers deadly reprisal attack that claims 10 lives

A violent internal dispute among rival armed bandit groups has led to the killing of at least ten residents in Tofa village, Magami District, Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Zagazola Makama gathered that the incident began on June 22 when a notorious bandit identified as Uban Gora from the western flank of Tofa allegedly pursued and robbed a Golf vehicle traveling from Dansadau.
In a twist of events, another bandit from the eastern part of the village, reportedly angered by the robbery, confronted and fatally shot Uban Gora.
According to local accounts, the killing sparked a chain of deadly reprisals. On receiving the news of Uban Gora’s death, his gang leader mobilized heavily armed men and stormed Tofa village on June 23, opening fire on residents and killing ten people before fleeing the scene. Several people reportedly sustained injuries during the attack.
Community members buried the deceased according to Islamic rites.
