Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni CON, COMN, has charged the traditional institutions in the state to step up the fight against drug abuse in their domains.
“As traditional rulers and custodians of tradition and culture, you have great roles to play in the moral upbringing of youths in your domains.
Buni dropped a warning today when the people of the Gudi emirate council paid him a thank-you visit at the Government House, Damaturu.
The governor revealed that the consumption of illicit drugs is fast becoming a huge menace and threat in Northern Nigeria. Adding that, the government and traditional institutions must come together to fight the menace.
Hon. Mai Mala Buni maintained that the traditional institution is a highly respected institution with a large following, making it a strong advocate for the fight against drug abuse.
The governor prayed for a peaceful tenure of the new emir: “I pray that your tenure would unite the people of your emirate in peace and prosperity.
He congratulated the new Emir of Gudi, Alhaji Ismaila Ahmed Gadaka, saying his emergence as the Emir was widely accepted by the people, indicating a popular endorsement.
According to Governor Buni, “You have to be a successful politician and now a traditional ruler; no one can tell you the importance of tolerance and accommodation because you are an expert with a wide experience.
He prayed for the repose of the late Emir’s soul. May Allah (SWT) forgive his shortcomings and admit him into Aljannah Firdaus. Ameen.
“While a political leader is elected with a specified tenure, the traditional rulers are life leaders whose tenure usually expires only when they die; therefore, we must come together to collectively defeat this threat.”
