Suspected burglar beaten to death by mob in Gwagwalada

A suspected burglar met a tragic end on Sunday morning in Gwaka Village, Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), after an irate mob beat him to death for allegedly attempting to break into a shop at the local market.

Zagazola gathered that the incident occurred at about 7:00 a.m. when the unidentified suspect was reportedly caught trying to force his way into a shop using a master key.

Sources said his actions drew the attention of some traders and youths in the area, who descended on him with sticks and other objects, beating him unconscious before authorities could arrive.

Community leader, placed a distress call to security operatives after the situation escalated.

The unconscious suspect was later rushed to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (UATH), where medical personnel on duty confirmed him dead on arrival.

His remains have since been deposited at the hospital mortuary pending identification and autopsy.

Authorities have commenced investigation into the incident and have warned residents against taking the law into their own hands.
