The Southern Borno Concerned Citizens has made her position clearl on the tax reform bills.
In a press release issued recently to newsmen in Maiduguri signed by her National Chairman/ Spokenman Comrade Bulama Ali Haruna Sawa said that the organization is standing firm with Senator Ali Ndume on tax reform bills.
“In reality Senator Ndume stands has only bolstered our support for his commitment to our welfare.” It further said that government should consider tax relief for the suffering masses “this is a time when our government should be considering tax relief , as seen in neighbouring countries.”
The organization disputed the fallacies of one Adamu Bashir of the so called “Northern Redemptions Colliations” regarding the position of Senator Ali Ndume, on the tax reform bills submitted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the National Assembly.
“We feel compelled to counter the fallacies in Bashir’s recent response to Senator Ndume interview on channels TV. “
Finally, the statement said that they strongly affirm that the people of Southern Borno are satisfied with Senator Ndume’s representation and stand with him.

Bauchi Police arrests father for chaining son for 17 years

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 72-year-old man for allegedly chaining his 40-year-old biological son for 17 years in Shadawanka Village, on the outskirts of Bauchi Local Government Area.
Sources said the incident came to light on Feb. 16, 2026, at about 1:30 p.m., following a distress call from the community reporting the inhumane treatment.
The DPO of ‘B’ Division, together with officers from the Police Response and Special Patrol Unit (PRESPOL), led a team of detectives to the scene, where they found the victim helpless inside a room with a chain on his right leg.
The father, Malam Muhammad Lawan, was arrested and taken into custody, while the victim was rushed to ATBU Teaching Hospital for urgent medical attention.
Police sources said the case is under investigation and assured the public that perpetrators of such acts would be brought to justice.

Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA, alongside other joint security forces, successfully rescued ten residents abducted by suspected armed bandits in Madakin Hurya village, Kankara Local Government Area, and recovered 30 rustled sheep.
Sources said that at about 11:00 p.m. on Feb. 16, 2026, armed bandits attacked the village, abducting residents and stealing livestock. Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA, in coordination with Police and Civil Watch (CWATCH) units, were immediately deployed to the area and intercepted the assailants at the outskirts of the village.
A sustained gunfight ensued, forcing the bandits to flee into Gidan Jakibush with varying degrees of gunshot injuries. The operation led to the safe rescue of all ten kidnapped victims, including Nasiru Yau, 50; Salisu Umar, 45; Habiba Ibrahim, 13; and seven others. Thirty stolen sheep were recovered and returned to the community.
Normalcy has been restored in Madakin Hurya, while cordon-and-search operations continue to track and apprehend the fleeing bandits. Further updates are expected.

Yobe security operatives rescue kidnapped victim, arrest four suspects

Security operatives in Yobe State have rescued a kidnapped resident, Abdul’hamid Garba, 35, of Nayi Nawa Area, Damaturu, and arrested four suspects involved in the abduction.
Sources said that on Feb. 16 at about 10:20 p.m., Garba was abducted by suspects identified as Moh’d Usman, 32; Kabiru Ibrahim Umar, 42; Idriss Abdullahi Zakaria, 27; and Matthew Obata, 21, all staff of Transworld Private Security Guard, Kano.
The suspects had hired a Prado jeep from Giwa Company, Kano, for N400,000, using a covered registration number ABJ 295 NB, and moved the victim without a clear destination while demanding a ransom of N10 million from his relations.
Following a tip-off from a good Samaritan, security operatives swung into action and intercepted the suspects at A.U. Kaifayi Filling Station, Potiskum LGA, along the Potiskum/Kano road. The victim was rescued unhurt and taken to Yobe State Specialist Hospital for medical examination.
The suspects were taken into custody, and their statements, including confessions, have been recorded. Investigations into the case are ongoing.
