Terrorism: Army instructor allegedly killed self after being exposed, arrested as ISWAP collaborator

A soldier, identify as L/Cpl Jibrin, who was arrested for collaborating with ISWAP terrorists has killed himself while being escorted to the barrack according to reports.

The soldier with one the Battalions of the Nigerian Army in the North-East was discovered by military intelligence operatives for his involvement with terrorism and also with recent attacks on brothels and beer parlours in Gaidam and Gashua towns of Yobe state in northeast Nigeria where nine people were slaughtered.

“He was involved in recent attacks in Geidam and Gashua communities in Yobe State. He was an instructor with his Army Battalion in Geidam, who disappeared for about 2 day, was however sighted among the ISWAP terrorists that attacked Geidam last Sunday.” A security official told NEWSng.

The Battalion CO tracked his phone and he was pinpointed at a point in Gashua, hundreds of kilometers from his supposed duty post.  

“Army authorities in Gashua were intimated and the soldiers spread their dragnets. On Tuesday morning, L/Cpl Jibrin boarded a bus to Gombe and disguised himself but was identified and nabbed at the checkpoint in Gashua.” Our source said.

Jibrin was said to have been handcuffed and on interrogation revealed so many things.

However, on transit to Geidam, Jibrin allegedly employed his skills as a weapon instructor, snatched a gun from one of his escorts, overpowered the other and blew himself up. 

His revelations however led to the arrest of some of his terror-brethren, while many are believed to be among the troops in both Gombe and Geidam Battalions.

“He was apprehended while attempting to escape after he learnt that his movements and activities with terrorists have been discovered by the intelligence service.

“After being handcuffed, he skillfully snatched a gun from one of the escorts and killed himself.

While investigation is ongoing to nab other suspects within the service more revelations revealed that there may be more to the story making the round as some intelligence reports may perhaps revealed a contrary note to earlier claims

NEWSng gathered that, there are suspicion that the Army Instructor may not have killed himself afterwards but may have been summarily executed following some revelations he was making with regards to the military operations in the northeast

According to an insider report, L/CPL Jubrin said so much that may have implicated some military officials.

“For so long we have been saying that there is sabotage in the ongoing operations in the northeast. I was informed that the Military Commander has been invited to Abuja. We don’t know what may follow but from what we understand, there is more than meets the eye to this recent happening.” the source said.
