The fight against trafficking and child labour is far from over – Senator Oluremi Tinubu

To strengthen the fight against Human trafficking and child labor stronger collective action between Government and non Governmental organizations, civil society organizations, private sectors, and international organizations need to be strengthen towards enforcement of anti-trafficking laws, rescue of victims and enhance rehabilitation for survivors.

This was contained in the Speech of the First Lady Federal Republic of Nigeria Senator Oluremi Tinubu at the silver jubilee celebration of the Women Trafficking and Child Labour Eradication Foundation WOTCLEF. Represented by Wife of The Vice President Hajiya Nana Shettima, appreciated the initiator of WOTCLEF Chief Mrs Amina Titi Atiku Abubakar for the idea and vision that led to the establishment of the Foundation 25 years ago.

Senator Oluremi Tinubu said, the issues of trafficking and child labour are painful realities of women and children who are often the most vulnerable to this menace. “I thank WOTCLEF for being at the forefront of addressing these critical issues and providing succour to many families”

As an Educator the First Lady reiterated the importance of education as a viable tool towards eradicating trafficking and other vices. Under the Renewed Hope initiative women and youths are being empowered to break free from poverty.

The chairman of the occasion and former President of Nigeria Olusegun Obasanjo, the chief host former vice president of Nigeria Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and the founder of WOTCLEF gave an overview of the organization which gave birth to NAPTIP and NACTAL, the history of the organization which came into fusion twenty five years ago and the human trafficking bill passed into Law on the 14th July 2003, the success story and the efforts towards achieving the goal set to eradicate human trafficking and child labor in Nigeria.
