Three Farmers Killed in Suspected Communal Attack in Benue

The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the killing of three farmers in a suspected attack by armed persons from a neighbouring community in Apa Local Government Area of the state.

Police sources said the incident occurred on June 2 at about 6:30 a.m. when the victims went to their farm in Ikobi community in Apa Local Government Area.

The victims were identified as Ogbewa Audu, Isah Adason Idris, and Otuoje Joseph, a female farmer.

According to the sources, the attack was allegedly carried out by suspected members of a neighbouring community who ambushed and shot the victims dead while they were working on the farm.

A resident, Moses Ajeinu, was said to have reported the incident to the police at about 7:30 a.m. the same day.

Police operatives, led by the Divisional Police Officer in Apa, mobilised patrol and tactical teams to the scene, where the bodies were recovered and later deposited in a mortuary.

The command said the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has commenced investigation into the incident to determine those responsible and the circumstances surrounding the attack.

Authorities assured residents of intensified security patrols in the area to prevent further escalation of violence.
