Tinubu/ Shettima 2023: A Sincere Promise To Nigerians

By: James Bwala

In Gbaramatu Kingdom in Delta State, a summary of the ongoing Campaigns and actors leading their different Political parties, the APC Presidential Candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu have spoken the minds of many Nigerians who are sincerely following the trends and events in the polity. This piece is centred on All Progressive Congress APC, Labour Party, LP and People’s Democratic Party, PDP. These are the parties dominating the space on the road to 2023. Only one man says he knows the road.

According to Tinubu, “There are three of us remaining in the run. One calls his name Atiku. How many times has he been running? And he is tired, tell him to go and sit down. The other one is full of statistics that even the Indian man cannot solve. He is always speaking arithmetic and warehouse economy. Are we going to eat statistics? That one I hate to call his name. All that Nigerians need is the man that knows the road….And Kabesi, that is me. “

APC Presidential Candidate Bola Tinubu

Tinubu does not minced words and he is not in the game to please people who wants to hear curling English or theoritical explaination in a confused mathematical form. Indeed, Nigerians have come to a crossroad in its democratic journey having been walking to fine rest in the last 23 or 24 years from 1999. At this crossroads, a decision have to be taken and a wise one must. It is not about speaking English or mathematics but about where we are and the destination we are heading.

I did not know Tinubu that much, but I heard him speaking with sand-gravel voice as some Nigerians would like to say. However, a solution for those who truly are seeking one should not be about a person speech but if that speech has the needed answer. None of these other candidates are bold enough to tell Nigerians that they know the road to freedom like the man who knows the road and his golden boy had continued to say with much emphasis at any ground that opens up for the opportunity to say it.

APC VP Kashim Shettima

I have listened to speaches made by the three gladiators in the past two weeks listening to them over and over. I indeed have a strong understanding of mathematics, but I sincerely cannot tell where Peter Obi begins or ends his arithmetics. His words are parabolically and contradictory. I listened to speaches made by the former Vice President and candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP to at least fine meaning to some of his claims, but I found none rather than mere babblings.

At this crossroads, Nigeria and Nigerians needs words that speaks the answers to their many questions. However that words came through if only it is the answers and solutions to the problem of many years even if it is coming from a dying man as many who position themselves in God’s footprint are saying of this man who told Nigerians that he knows the roads and he has a golden boy with him for those seeking this golden opportunity to lead the way to Nirvana.

Delta State Video: As Tinubu, Shettima makes history

In Delta, in Plateau, in Lagos and in states yet to visit and take the massage of his promise to Nigerians, Tinubu and Kashim Shettima have continued to tell those with ears to hear that they are not taking figures to confuse Nigerians nor do they want to impress Nigerians with fake promises but rather want to assure Nigerians that enough is enough of playing games. Both Tinubu and Kashim Shettima knows that Nigerians are looking for people with track records of achievements and not only a blue print. Those who have a footprint to recall and not only  futuristically speaking.

In 2023, elections will hold even though some dooms prophets have their own saying. Nigerians are not standing with negative minded people at this time  about their imaginations. A renewed hope is all we need to stay positive. Some people said they want to recover. What do they want to recover? That is the answer Nigerians are curious to know after sixteen years of treasury looting by the Almighty PDP. While we forgive them however, we are looking for that hope coming in the next few months.

Edo Election: ActionAid Nigeria Calls for Prosecution of those involved in Electoral Fraud

By: Michael Mike

ActionAid Nigeria has called for the prosecution of those that were involved in electoral fraud in the just concluded gubernatorial election in Edo State

A statement on Thursday by the NGO Country Director, Andrew Mamedu, said:
“it is important that those responsible for undermining the will of the people are held accountable. The government must be unequivocally reminded that its foremost duty is to serve the interests of the citizens, not to facilitate or condone actions that silence their voices.”

Mamedu said: “For over 15 years, ActionAid Nigeria has been consistent in her work around electoral processes in Nigeria including observing elections in the 36 states and FCT, although not physically present to observe the just concluded Edo State governorship election, we stand firmly in solidarity with our fellow Civil Society organisations and partners who have reported significant irregularities throughout the electoral process. This election has been marred by serious allegations of manipulation and rigging, as thoroughly documented by multiple civil society groups within the state. Disturbing accounts of disruptions at collation centers, including intimidation of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials and attempts to manipulate results contrary to established electoral provisions, have raised profound concerns about the integrity of the electoral process.

“We recognise that INEC has acknowledged reports of result tampering and has pledged to investigate any proven violations but their track record in conducting free, fair, and transparent elections has been severely undermined by persistent accusations of inefficiency, manipulation, and undue political influence. While the investigation is a step in the right direction, it is important that these investigations translate into swift and effective action.

“Also, beyond the investigation, it is important that those responsible for undermining the will of the people are held accountable.”

He added that: “The time has also come to critically reassess INEC’s role in our electoral system. When an institution entrusted with safeguarding democracy continuously falters, we must explore alternatives. Nigerians deserve an electoral body that is genuinely independent, transparent, and accountable. There is a need to reform INEC as a commission in order to make it more efficient, effective and accountable in carrying out its mandate as an electoral umpire.”

Mamedu said: “A comprehensive electoral reform in Nigeria is urgently needed. First, there must be a complete overhaul of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to create a more transparent, accountable, and independent body, free from political influence and led by individuals of proven integrity.”

He called for more roles for civil society organisations and international observers in Nigeria’s electoral process, stating that: “Civil society organisations and international observers should play a more significant role in observing elections, ensuring that their recommendations are taken seriously, with mechanisms in place for swift action against misconduct.”

He added that: “The adoption of more robust electoral technologies, such as biometric voting systems and real-time result transmission, is crucial to minimizing fraud.

“Security personnel must also be deployed impartially to prevent violence and intimidation, ensuring that party agents, the media, and observers have full access to maintain electoral integrity. It is essential to incorporate technologies like the BVAs and IREV into the Electoral Act.

“The judiciary must uphold its role as the guardian of democracy, prioritising electoral cases with swift, evidence-based verdicts. Any officials found complicit in electoral fraud must be held accountable, necessitating comprehensive reforms in the judicial sector to ensure just outcomes.”
