Troops of 8 Division Garrison, Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have thwarted an attempt by suspected terrorists to launch an attack in Zamfara state, recovering a weapon, ammunition, motorcycles and other items.

Security sources disclosed that the troops, deployed for counter-terrorism operations, acted on credible intelligence indicating the movement of terrorists towards Kwanar Jollof in Jangeru Village, Shinkafi area.

The sources said the troops tactically positioned themselves along the route and laid an ambush for the terrorists.

“Upon sighting the terrorists, the troops engaged them with a heavy volume of fire, forcing them to abandon their mission and flee into the surrounding area,” the sources said.

Items recovered from the scene included one PKT assault weapon, a cache of ammunition, two motorcycles, chains believed to have been intended for abducted victims, and eight pairs of military uniforms.

The sources noted that the recovery of military uniforms suggested that the terrorists may have intended to disguise themselves during their planned operation.

They added that the successful operation disrupted the terrorists’ plans to wreak havoc in the area and underscored the effectiveness of intelligence-driven military operations.

According to the sources, troops are currently exploiting the general area to track down the fleeing suspects and prevent any further threat to residents.
