Troops Destroy Improvised Explosive Devices, Clear Communities in Borno Wet Season Offensive

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have destroyed two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and conducted extensive clearance operations across parts of Borno State as part of ongoing wet season offensives aimed at denying Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists freedom of movement.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the coordinated operations were carried out on July 21 under Operation DESERT SANITY V by troops of Sector 2 in collaboration with volunteer forces.
The sources said troops of the 19 Battalion (Mechanised) and 25 Brigade Garrison, comprising 134 soldiers supported by 100 volunteer fighters, mounted on four Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles, six gun trucks, three troop-carrying vehicles, one VP1 vehicle and 17 motorcycles, conducted a clearance operation along the Damboa–Bulabulin–Kumala Main Supply Route and adjoining communities.
During the operation, troops swept the Kumala and Bulabulin general areas, where they discovered two primed improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted along the route by suspected terrorists.
The explosive devices were safely detonated in situ by the troops, preventing what security sources described as a potential attack on military personnel and civilian road users.
The troops also encountered a suspected terrorist logistics supplier, who fled upon sighting the advancing forces. A search of the area led to the recovery of one bicycle and two bags of charcoal, believed to have been intended for terrorist elements operating within the area.
In a related operation conducted simultaneously, combined troops of the 162 Amphibious Battalion, 231 Battalion and 331 Artillery Regiment, alongside 117 volunteer fighters, carried out clearance patrols across Diwa, Liya, Bam, Ngilu, Sura, Pela and Pela Sanga communities.
The combined force, comprising 32 soldiers mounted on two MRAPs and 75 motorcycles, thoroughly searched the communities and surrounding areas.
No terrorist camps were discovered during the operation, and the troops made no contact with insurgents.
Military sources said the clearance operations form part of sustained efforts under Operation DESERT SANITY V to dominate the theatre, secure key supply routes, detect explosive hazards and prevent terrorists from re-establishing camps during the rainy season.
The sources added that the overall security situation across the North-East theatre remains calm but unpredictable, while troops continue to maintain high morale and operational readiness in ongoing counter-insurgency operations.

Troops Rescue 10 Kidnap Victims After Gun Battle with Terrorists in Sokoto

Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued 10 kidnapped victims after engaging suspected terrorists in Gandi Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the operation was carried out at about 5:00 p.m. on July 20 by troops of the 1 Brigade deployed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Gandi in conjunction with members of the Sokoto State Community Guard Corps (SSCGC).
The sources said the troops made contact with the terrorists at Badanma Village following actionable intelligence on their movement in the area.
During the ensuing firefight, the superior firepower of the security team forced the terrorists to flee, abandoning 10 kidnapped victims who were being held captive.
The victims were successfully rescued and evacuated to safety, while troops launched a pursuit operation to track down the fleeing terrorists.
Military sources said efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspects and dismantle their hideouts as part of sustained operations aimed at combating kidnapping and banditry across Sokoto State.
The sources added that the joint operation underscores the growing synergy between the Nigerian Army and the Sokoto State Community Guard Corps in enhancing security and protecting vulnerable communities under Operation FANSAN YAMMA.

Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued six kidnapped victims and recovered two motorcycles after repelling a terrorist attack on communities in Shagari Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the operation was conducted at about 11:25 a.m. on July 20 by troops of the 1 Brigade deployed at the Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) Shagari and Sifawa.
The sources said the troops swiftly responded after receiving reports that suspected terrorists had attacked civilians in Wanke and Kaura villages.
On reaching the area, the troops engaged the attackers in a fierce firefight, forcing them to retreat into the surrounding bush.
In their haste to escape the superior firepower of the troops, the terrorists abandoned six kidnapped victims, who were immediately rescued by the security forces.
The troops also recovered two motorcycles believed to have been used by the fleeing terrorists during the operation.
The rescued victims were evacuated to safety for medical evaluation and debriefing, while troops commenced pursuit operations to track down the fleeing suspects.
Military sources said the operation is part of sustained offensive efforts under Operation FANSAN YAMMA to deny terrorists freedom of action, rescue abducted civilians and restore security across communities in Sokoto State.

Troops Repel Terrorist Ambush in Kaduna, Recover AK-47 Rifle and Ammunition

Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have repelled a terrorist ambush and recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition during a fighting patrol in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at about 10:00 a.m. on July 20, when troops of the 2 Nigerian Mobile Force (2 NMF), operating within Sector 1 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, came under attack by suspected terrorists at Abrom Village.
The sources said the terrorists launched a surprise ambush on the patrol, but the troops responded with superior firepower, successfully fighting through the attack and forcing the assailants to retreat into the surrounding bush.
Following the encounter, the troops conducted exploitation of the area and recovered one AK-47 rifle, one magazine, and 50 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm ammunition, believed to have been abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.
No casualty was reported among the troops during the operation.
Military sources said follow-up operations are ongoing to track the fleeing terrorists and prevent them from regrouping, adding that sustained fighting patrols and offensive operations remain critical to denying criminal elements freedom of action across Kaduna State under Operation FANSAN YAMMA.
