Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA Kebbi State on Thursday foiled a bandits’ raid, neutralised one of the attackers and recovered large herds of rustled cows in Indarai forest, Zugu District.

Sources said that on Sept. 18, at about 5:30 p.m., armed bandits in large numbers invaded Indarai forest, rustling cows belonging to members of the Zugu community.

According to sources, Army troops and vigilante groups, and other security forces engaged the bandits in a gun duel.

“The joint security forces succeeded in neutralising one of the bandits and recovered the rustled cows.

“Unfortunately, one vigilante member, identified as Nura Tela, sustained gunshot injuries during the encounter and died on the way to hospital.

“The bandits, who were overpowered, fled into neighbouring Zamfara State with some of their injured members,”said the sources.

The sources said that the recovered cows had been handed over to concerned authorities for safe keeping.

The sources assured that intensive patrols had been sustained in the area to prevent further attacks and restore confidence among residents.
