Troops launch manhunt after 43-year-old man abducted in Plateau

Troops of Sector 1, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), have launched a manhunt for suspected kidnappers following the abduction of a 43-year-old man, Mr Philip Azarachi, at his residence in Agingi village, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The incident occurred at about 8:43 p.m. on Sept. 24, when troops responded to a report of the abduction.

Following the report, the troops immediately laid an ambush and manned possible escape routes used by the criminals in an effort to intercept them.

However, no contact was established with the kidnappers.

Security sources said efforts were ongoing to track the abductors and secure the safe rescue of the victim.

Troops have also intensified surveillance and patrols within the area as part of measures to prevent the kidnappers from escaping with the victim.

Troops arrest suspected ISWAP collaborator, recover ₦296,000 in Yobe

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have arrested a suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorist collaborator at Geidam Market in Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the suspect was apprehended at about 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 23, 2026, by troops of 159 Task Force Battalion, in collaboration with personnel of the Nigerian Forest Guards.

The suspect was arrested following security operations at the market, during which the troops recovered one mobile phone and the sum of ₦296,000 in cash.

The suspect and the recovered items are currently in military custody for further investigation and necessary action.

Security sources said the investigation would help determine the suspect’s alleged links with ISWAP and establish the source and intended use of the recovered funds.

Deputy Commander of Operation Rainbow killed in ambush by Fulani Bandits along Bokkos-Barkin Ladi road

The Deputy Commander of Operation Rainbow, CSP Dennis David Babale, has been killed after gunmen suspected to be Fulani Bandits ambushed personnel of the security outfit along the Bokkos-Barkin Ladi road in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Zagazola Makama reports that the incident occurred at about 4:06 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 22, when the personnel, travelling in a Toyota Hilux vehicle, came under attack by unidentified gunmen.

Troops of Sector 4, Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP), responded to a distress report and moved to the location of the attack.

Sources said that Babale sustained gunshot wounds during the ambush and was evacuated to the General Hospital, Barkin Ladi, for medical attention.

He, however, later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Following the attack, troops, working alongside personnel of other security agencies, launched offensive operations and a manhunt for the assailants within the general area.

Security forces have intensified efforts to track the attackers and prevent further attacks along the route.

The latest incident comes amid heightened security concerns in parts of Plateau State, where armed attacks and reprisals have continued to pose challenges to the safety of communities and security personnel.
