Troops Launch Operation To Clear Sambisa Forest Of Terror

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai Theater Command have launched a major operation aimed at rooting out the remnants of terrorists tormenting communities within and surrounding Timbuktu Triangle and Sambisa Forest.

The troops, in conjunction with the CJTF hybrid force, descended on locations infested by the terrorists across the infamous forest with the overall mandate of clearing the entire forest of everything with the semblance of terror and related criminalities.

Consequently, the combined operation, codenamed Operation Desert Sanity III, rescued 25 persons, comprising 16 women, 2 men and 7 children, from the terrorists’ captivity.

The combined operation advanced from base across the clusters of the terrorists’ locations towards Aulari Ngoromari and Alafa with few encounters with the terrorists who fled the scene before the arrival of the troops.

The troops increased the tempo of its activities and recorded recoveries of various types of weapons belonging to the terrorists, the troops coasted to harbour unscathed, vibrating the determination, high morale and readiness to launch the second phase of the operation in Sambisa Forest on May 11, 2024.

The troops who have vowed to decisively rid the infamous Sambisa Forest of all forms of terror and criminality, stormed the Njimia, and Farisu villages. During the operation, several suspected BH/ISWAP Terrorists were neutralized, while others escaped with bullet wounds.

Troops rescue 157 civilians, foil ISWAP abduction in Borno

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have rescued no fewer than 157 civilians abducted by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists along the Buratai–Kamuya road in Borno.

Sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred on March 30 at about 2:50 p.m. when troops of 135 Special Forces Battalion deployed at Echo 1, Dutse Kura, came under attack while on escort duty.

During the engagement, it was discovered that the terrorists had kidnapped about 17 vehicles conveying an estimated 157 civilians and were moving them into the bush along the route.

“Own troops immediately deployed to the location and successfully engaged the terrorists, repelling the attack and forcing them to flee towards Mangari axis.

The troops pursued the fleeing insurgents into the bush, compelling them to abandon the abducted vehicles and all the victims.

However, during the pursuit, the QRF team encountered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) along the Bula Zarma–Mangari general area.

One soldier sustained severe injuries from the explosion and was immediately evacuated to a medical facility in Biu for expert treatment.

The rescued victims, comprising men, women and children, were moved to Buratai town for onward transportation to their respective destinations for reunification with their families.

Military sources said troops have continued to dominate the general area, while the security situation remains unpredictable.

Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, and governors of Kwara, Lagos, Taraba, Kogi, and Akwa Ibom States attended the book launch and 60th birthday celebration of veteran journalist and Director of News at TVC, Babajide Otitoju.

The event, held on Monday at the NAF Conference Centre, brought together prominent figures from Nigeria’s political and media spheres in honour of Otitoju’s enduring contributions to journalism.

The highlight of the occasion was the unveiling of Otitoju’s book titled “My Life and Journalist Hangout.”

Chairman of the event and Governor of Kwara State, Abdulrahman Abdulrazak, delivered remarks on behalf of the 36 state governors.

He described Otitoju as a seasoned journalist whose work has significantly influenced the growth and development of journalism in Nigeria, adding that his legacy will stand as one of excellence and professionalism in the media industry.

In a demonstration of collective support, the Kwara State Governor announced the purchase of 36 copies of the book on behalf of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum for a total sum of ₦200 million.

Troops uncover identity of neutralised Boko Haram fighter as top bomb maker

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have uncovered the identity of a neutralised Boko Haram fighter identified as a key improvised explosive device (IED) expert and trainer in the North-East theatre of operations.

Zagazola Makama that the fighter, earlier neutralised during an ambush operation along a border axis, was later identified as Habba Umar, also known by the alias “Bomma”.

He was reportedly discovered to be a specialist in IED and vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) fabrication, with links to terrorist elements of Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).

According to the sources, the suspect was believed to have operated within an enclave around Arena Wuje and allegedly played a key role in training and coordinating explosive device activities for the group.

Intelligence further indicated that he had suspected links to previous IED incidents along the Marte–Dikwa axis and parts of the Lake Chad basin corridor, although investigations are ongoing to fully establish the extent of his involvement.

The sources added that troops recovered items and electronic devices from the scene of the ambush, which are currently undergoing intelligence exploitation to support ongoing counter-terrorism operations.

Military authorities said operations in the general area remain ongoing, with troops sustaining pressure on terrorist elements and their support networks across the theatre.
