Troops of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have neutralised two terrorists and recovered weapons in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State.
Zagazola Makama learnt that the operation which took place on Sept 16, was part of intensified efforts to deny terrorists freedom of action across the state.
The source said the operation was conducted on Monday following credible intelligence of a planned attack on Chanchanji community by elements suspected to be of the Bojo group.
According to the source, the troops swiftly deployed to the area and encountered the terrorists along Demeva–Chanchanji road.
“The troops engaged them in a firefight, neutralising one terrorist, while others fled the scene.
“In a follow-up operation, the troops pursued the fleeing terrorists to the Demeva–Gbudu axis in Chanchanji, which was identified as their intended crossing point to Ananum community in Donga Local Government Area.
“During another heavy exchange of fire, the troops neutralised one more terrorist,” the source said.
Items recovered during the operations include one G3 rifle, 16 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and a motorcycle.
The source added that the general security situation in the area remained calm, while troops maintained aggressive patrols to reassure residents of their safety.
