Troops neutralize 26 terrorists in Borno

Troops on Monday eliminated 26 ISWAP terrorists during an encounter in Jere Local Government of Borno State, northeast Nigeria.

NEWSng gathered that the troops eliminated the insurgents while repelling an attack launched by the terrorists on Chabbal community in Jere Local government area of the state.

“The insurgents entered the town through the Mafa axis on gun trucks on the evening of Monday.

“The ISWAP fighters started shooting sporadically, after invading the town.” Bukar Alhaji Bukar, a community leader in Jere told NEWSng

Also a military officer corroborating on the attack told newsmen that troops from 2I2 Task Force Battalion and 195 Battalion Jere immediately swung into action, killing 16 terrorists.

He said: “The terrorists tried to advance from the Chabbal axis to attack soft targets but were subdued and forced to retreat.

“Soldiers were put on alert as soon the information came in. The insurgents came with their gun trucks, but the military repelled the attack and recovered some of the gun trucks.

Meanwhile, the theatre Commander, Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Christopher Musa, has commended the gallantry of troops who eliminated several terrorists in Jere axis, on Monday.

While reacting to military feat, Gen. Musa urged them not to relent on prosecuting the counter-insurgency operations, till Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists are defeated.
