Troops neutralize 3 ISWAP Fighters in Borno

Troops of Sector 1, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have neutralized three Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP terrorists in Kwadal/Agapalawa/Amuda axis of Borno state.

The border area axis with Cameroon, had been terrorists’ hideouts since 2014, before they were ambushed by troops.

Spokesman of the Army, Brig-Gen. Clement Nwachukwu yesterday, in Maiduguri stated that the insurgents were killed at a crossing-point in the border areas of Gwoza Local Government Area.

“Our troops were on a long range fighting patrol towards Agapalwa and Amuda villages in the border areas of the council,” he said, adding that soldiers got wind of terrorists’ rampaging activities and laid ambushed at crossing point.

He further disclosed that troops rained heavy fire on the terrorists, inflicting maximum casualty on them.

Thereafter, he added that the troops eliminated three terrorists with the recovery of a General Purpose Machine Gun, three hand grenades and 62 links of 7.62mm ammunition.

Other recovered items included a motorcycle and three bicycles used in crossing the border areas into the country.

He said that troops the troops are currently exploiting further to clear the area of any fleeing terrorist into the Mandara Mountains. 

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Faruk Yahaya, also commended the vigilance and gallantry of frontline soldiers.

He therefore urged them to intensify their offensive operations to further decimate the insurgents.
